George Foreman grill (easy to store)
If you need extra space in the kitchen, put a baker's rack on your reg. They're usually a decent price, and they're narrow, so you get a lot of storage space without taking up a lot of room in the kitchen.
You can never have enough various-sized, cute organizer boxes.
A KitchenAid mixer is awesome, but storing that sucker will be a huge PITA. Put a nice hand mixer on there instead.
A blender/food processor combo.

Yes! Mine right now are stolen from bars so they don't all stack. That's a big space saver!
Also, I keep all my pots and pans in the stove, tenament-style.

For the kitchen cabinets, I keep my bowls and coffee mugs on wire racks so it kinda like, adds a shelf in the cabinet.
SPACE BAGS ARE AMAZING for storing extra linens and seasonal clothes

Hanging pot rack holder! We rent but this is a good investment since our kitchen is literally 5x5.

Us too... no where else to put them! Sometime I cook and forget a lid or something in there.

Re: registry items for small apartments.
I'm not sure what aspects of space you're going to have a problem with... like, my apartment is on th small side but the biggest problem is storage/closet space... so we bought these white flakeboard screw together shelves and we put them in the kitchen, I keep canned goods on them and they serve as a little extra surface/work space... and we bought 2 big white cabinets, one to use int he kitchen for pots'pans and a pantry and one to use as a linen closet.
And I keep my shoes in these things that hang from your closet rod and they're just canvas cubby holes... saves so much space ont he floor so I can fit my hamper in the closet

I would say anything that doubles is two things (like a tv stand that has a cabinet on the bottom for books or something).

Def no Kitchen Aide Mixer! :( For my shower I didn't want your typical wishing well - where the heezey am I going to put another salt and pepper shaker or pot holders? really? I'm going to have a 'Win for Life' tree - everyone is asked to bring a lotto ticket and it's going to go in this tree/pot thing we're making and hopefully I'll win some MONEY!!!
