Registry question

Registry question

My parents are planning to throw us our e-party in August and a few friends have told me that we should start a registry so that our guests can get us something from the registry. Now I know gifts arent something people should feel obligated to give at an e-party and I feel like if we register thats a way of saying we expect a gift and I dont want people to feel that way. The friends who suggested the registry said that at least if we register and if people ask, my parents can tell them where we're registered and they can get us something we want rather than something we may not need/want. Any thoughts?

people are probably going to get you something anywa... not many people go to a party empty handed... you might as well register so that you have abetter chance of getting things you want..

that said, if you arent comfortable doing it, then you shouldnt!

Maybe think of a theme that everyone could bring an easy / not expensive gift around. Like bring their favorite bottle of wine, or their favorite book, or favorite recipe, gift certificates to favorite restuarants, or something like that -that people would like to share and tell you about. You could have it based on one of your hobbies maybe. Just an idea.

register but dont put it in your invites, which you are not even supposed to do anyways its not proper etiquette...but if someone asks a family member where your registered then that is fine, and if someone is asking then they want to buy a gift so dont worry

Re: Registry question

people are going to give you something, whether it be cash or gifts. i would definitely recommend registering for some items that you wont be changing your mind about (like i would put china or bedding on there, but thats just me, bc i changed my mind a few times before i decided). then if people want to know if/where you are registered they will ask. its better than getting stuff you dont like or cant return.

We registered only for china and crystal for our e-party. We didn't disclose that info on our invites but if people asked, my mom knew what to tell them.

We had the same issue. We didn't want to register because we didn't want to seem like we expected gifts. In the end, we registered before our e-party. We didn't say anything on the invites because we, like you, thought gifts were optional. In the end, I was very glad I registered because almost everyone who came bought us a gift off of our registry. They just asked our families where we were registered. Like someone else said, they are going to buy you gifts no matter what- might as well make sure it's something you want!

Re: Registry question

Thanks for the advice ladies! FH and I decided to register for some things and definitely not include it in the invites. If anyone asks, then we'll offer the info that we're registered. Thanks again!
