I don't mean to sound stupid, but when are we supposed to register? I am getting married May, 2004. I keep hearing mixed things, and I'd like to know what you guys thought. Thanks!

Re: Registry question
we registered right after we got engaged. people did start sending us presents then. most people wait until an engagement party.

Re: Registry question
I registered right after my engagement. Registering is tiring..go with lots of energy and eat first.

Re: Registry question
I guess that depends on what type of celebrations are you planning to have. We did not do an engagement party, nor a shower, so we didn't do our registration until January.

Re: Registry question
I'd go 6 months before, new items come out all the time. I registred 9 months before & my coffee maker was discontinued, a newer model came out so I went back to look at a newer one & switched.

Re: Registry question
You could register now for some things that won't get discontinued, such as china and most kitchen appliances. I would wait for the rest though. I registered at Fortunoff and they put stickers on some of the kitchen items that say 'not recommended for bridal registries'. The reason they do that is because they may be discontinued soon. Just stay away from those items and bed and bath items and you should be ok. At least, that is what I did.

Re: Registry question
We just registered in January for our October wedding. I plan on going over it again around June/July to see if anything's discontinued & replace items. :)

Re: Registry question
We registered in June for our e-party. I can not tell you how many things have already been discontinued . I get emails from Fortunoff's at least 1-2 times a month with discontinued items (incl. both towels that we registered for)!!! When we went, the only thing Fortunoff's said to definitely not do so early was the bedding - that stuff changes every 6-9 months. I would say wait as long as you can, but if you're having an e-party, you may have to register sooner.
