Registry question for girls who already had showers

Registry question for girls who already had showers

I registered for all Waterford crystal. My mother is telling me I'm being ridiculous and nobody is going to buy me that (the glasses range like $45-$60 each depending on the glass). Did you find that your guests did buy you like 2 glasses? Or should I register for something less expensive? I also don't want to get stuck having to buy all of my own crystal in the end so i'd appreciate any input from you guys. TIA.

I haven't had my shower yet, but i don't think that's crazy at all. If your registry starts to get piecey there are going to be people that will buy a glass or two. I know my friends or coworkers would buy two or three glasses a couple...

You'd be surprised that the older folks will buy these items for you. If not, you should receive a few gift cards to help you purchase what's left. With high priced items like this, also expect to receive pieces for your wedding. Post a pic of your crystal, I'd love to see it!

I almost feel like its better to have items that are less in value. If people can't find anything in their price range they are going to get you something random that probably can't be returned

This is the one time in your life where you will get this many gifts, aside from your baby shower. Register for whatever makes you happy. If people don't buy it, you can always get it down the line.

It's your registry. You should put whatever you want on it. Most family members if they don't want to spend the much will at least chip in!!

If you register for lots of different price ranges, there will be something for everyone. For example, I registered for a 10 piece Calphalon set. I didn't expect some random aunt or cousin to buy it, but my mom did. Little things like laddles, salad spinners, towels, coasters....people can make baskets out of stuff like that. The high price items are for those who can afford it or are closer to you like grandparents, bridal party, and mothers.

Put em on! People are so freakishly generous - it is amazing! Also alot of people chipped in together to get the big $$$$ items

If I was computer savy at all, I totally would! That's why I don't have a pic in my avatar! LOL...but it's Waterford and the pattern is Merrill. They have it at Macy's and BB&B if you want to check it out!

i agree! register for what you want. registering for waterford crystal is quite common. in the past few weeks alone i have glanced at just about 5-6 registries and every registry BUT one had waterford crystal on it. people will get you want they want and if they see it, they might get you one or two glasses-- or chip in w/ others and get a few (you never know). if they feel it's too much they will just get you a gift card to your store OR give you money-- which is fine. it's not like you are registering for glasses that are 150 dollars a piece. so don't worry!! HTH, good luck!!

Does anyone worry about having such expensive glassware and then them breaking?

We registered for all Waterford as well....I got the majority of it from my aunt, grandparents, or parents (over e-parties, showers, etc) and a few random glasses here and there from others...do want you want!!!

Edited for typos

if you register for them at macys, every purchase someone makes off your registry, you get 5% of the sale on a gift card, so u can go back and buy anything u want, or complete your registry if some people dont buy you all of them.

Though my mother was convince dthat I would get places settings and silver at my shower -- I generally got items in the $30 to $40 range.

Those are pretty expensive for glasses -- I would advise picking something less expensive if you really want to get a complete set.

I always said that when someone is going to be generous and they want to give you something, they will. I think you should register for it but you should also register for prices all over the range to give people choices. I find that for people that register for prices too expensive, people end up buying whatever they want and you definitely don't want that.
I got my whole fine china but I was very lucky. My family, bridal party were really generous and the majority of my guests. I even got presents sent home after the shower for those that were unable to attend. I got tons of presents and my registry only had a few items left. I think it was because I gave everyone a choice....I went from the most inexpensive items to expensive.
And don't forget to enjoy your shower.

We too registered for Wterford glassware (iced beverage and wine glasses) in the Cardiff pattern. We got all 12 from both sets as wedding presents. None of them were shower presents but we got all of them.

I would register for things in all ranges. On our registries we had everyday glasses from crate and barrel that were 1.95 a glass all the way up to our sterling silver (when purchased in 02/05 it was 2,500 now retailing for 4,000). And both extrems were purchased for us.

You may not get a whole set.

My friend registered for really nice china and only got one place setting. But they were very young and she found out she was pregnant right before the wedding, so people were generous with cash.

But, if you love it, go for it!

I registered for Vera Wang glasses, which were about $30 a piece. I only registered for wine glasses and the iced beverages. I got 2 wine glasses and 8 of the iced beverages, out of the 12 each that I registered for. I ended up changing my mind on the wine glasses, I really only needed the iced beverages because I had other wine glasses, so I'll be exchanging them so I could finish my set of 12.

It's important to have a range of prices, I noticed that the average was $50, unless people chipped in to purchase something, so definitely register for it if you want it. You can always change your mind after if you end up not getting it all, or you can buy the rest with your 10% off.

i imagine ppl would buy two glasses. my crystal is $30/glass and I haven't received any yet. But, I did have my shower and got a range (price-wise) of presents. I dont think a $90 gift is unusual.

I had some expensive things on my registry but also some less expensive things. Some people will get you a group gift, some people may get you gift cards, and some people will get the less expensive stuff.

I got enough gift cards to buy the more expensive duvet I registered for.
