Registry question for those who already have house/apt......

I am going to be registering shortly, are there anythings to register for without looking desperate, what I mean is we own an apartment and will staying in at a LONG while before we can ever get a house and we really do have everything, I know luggage will be on the registry but I can see all new linens and everything, my closet is full with linens, any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks all!

Do any of your appliances need upgrading? How about a new set of every day dishes and flatware? I know I forgot to register for a vacuum cleaner. What about china for when you do have a place of your own? Or tablecloths, napkins, a shower head. . . .the list can be endless!

I had a friend who registered for her bedroom set - and she got pretty much the whole thing.

I was in the same boat.. we registered for China, and flatware... some pots and pans, and some great appliances, that we needed to replace.. i registered for the things i would never see myself buying... because of price, or not being practical.. but you still want.. my house was full of everything i needed, but not necessarily everything i wanted.... LOL!!!

I had the same problem, I ended up registering for upgraded appliances(things I would never buy myself), 1 very high end bedding ensemble, knives(that was Fi's only request), serving pieces that complimented things I already have(I have 2 full sets of china that belonged to my Grandmother),
1 set of stoneware(I love to switch a few times a year)professional grade pots(I knew people would chip in to get them)Good bakeware.

I think your family & friends realize your dilema & will expect you to select things that are upgrades of what you already have. We gave all of our 'old' stuff to a young guy that works for Fi & is just getting started, he was thrilled.

We have the same problem - doubled. We both have fully stocked apartments. We are registering for china, flatware and some crystal (I already have some), good bed linnens, and some extra kitchen gadgets. My shower is going to be small, so I think this is enough.

Why don't you register for a honeymoon registry? They have those that people can purchase tours or pay for your car rental or even little things like pay for a bottle of champagne for you at your hotel.

Hope that helps get an idea since you don't really need anything for your apt., that way you can always have a housewarming party when you guys are ready to buy a house.

same problem. i upgraded - new toaster, coffee maker, coffee grinder and dish drainer. New stuff? china china china. we had just bough FLATWARE at Christmas!!! We really needed nothing. I got towels for the heck of it - who doesn't want/need new white towels. And then i did Restoration Hardware. Nice frames, vases, etc. Enjoy!

we made a list, and will use it when we register. We put stuff on it that we would like, but would never buy. I have it at home and can email it to you if you like. We also ordered the Fortunoff Bridal catologue. it has all their patterns for china and flatware. We picked out the ones we like, so that hopefully we can save some time when we register.

We were able to find things we needed. We needed a new vacuum, roaster pan, baking rack, baking trays, serving tray, wine glasses,champagne glasses, cake topper, family size George Forman grill and a regular grill. Then there's the little things too such as a garlic press, pizza cutter, gravy ladle,pie server,cake server,cake dish, baking mitts,etc. Believe it or not theres so many things you realize you don't have when you are entertaining (carafe,etc).

upgrade...and register for things you wouldn't buy for yourself...

also are you thinking about getting a king sized bed?

got through your things and get rid of older things so you can have new things for your new life...

I agree with Erica- upgrade and register for things you REALLY want. Also, keep large items such as bread machines down to a min. you probably do not have tons of room to store that stuff. I wanted beautiful wine glasses and new dishes. I registered for some new towels and got ALL of them, but I realized I didn't need them all so I returned a lot of towels. Register for a really nice set of linens, that you would probably not purchase yourself.
Silverware- get a new set and use for company
Chistmas/Holiday dishes- I started getting a set of these and I love them.
A nice new blanket- always good for when you have company stay over.

My stepmother gave me a beautiful Lane hope chest! Consider registering for a new coffee table or something like that.

I registered for any type of 'upgrade' item - things weren't absolutely needed but nice to have - food processor, random gadgets, etc.

We also received most of our china which was nice.

we have the same problem, so we are registering for some new appliances.

I am getting my moms china and my aunt is buying me my everyday dishes, so dont need to register for them.

It is so hard, I started this sunday and I had trouble.

Have you thought about registering someplace like home depot, I think this is good if you plan to have a house in the future, when we bought our house we felt like we were living at home depot and I know they do have a registry there. Also, I've heard of people registering for things like their wedding album or portrait to help offset the cost. I'm not really sure how you would go about doing this though. I would suggest talking to some of the registry planners at Macy's or Fortunoff's and see if they have any creative ideas for you. Good luck!

Thank you all for the ideas, I printed this and will keep for when I am ready next month. I would love to register for new bedroom set, we planned on buying one after the Wedding, how do you go about doing something like that and does it look funny? I think I would be embarrassed.
