Registry Related - Help in the Kitchen!!

Ok, so I don't cook. With my sister's help I selected a nice Calphalon non-stick set. When FMIL saw it on the registry she said I should change to stainless - that even though it's a little more difficult to clean, they're worth the money and they'll last forever.

TIA!!!

We got our Calaphon Stainless Steel set for a wedding gift. We've had it for 2.5 weeks and LOVE LOVE LOVE them! Just remember to cook them on lower temps then you normally would and you'll be OK.

Just put both you never know who will buy. That's what i did.
In the end you will need both types.

We had a mix. Most stainless steel and some non-stick
My DH picked them out. He is the cook.
AND LOOKS SEXY IN AN APRON!

Personally I HATE stainless steel. I have a great set of teflon I have had for years and nothing sticks to them still.... And I cook daily with them.

You want a mix of both...but no Teflon. Over time the Teflon coating will flake off the pot. Pots that are 'anodized' have gone through a process that seals the surface of the pan. That's the best kind of non-stick pots.

Re: Registry Related - Help in the Kitchen!!

definitely a mix of both we also went with the Calphalon Contemporary Stainless Steel and added a few non-stick pieces. we are registered at Fortunoff's but I found the salepeople at Williams-Sonoma really helpful and knew a lot about all the various pots and pans when we were trying to decide what to register for.

Basically they told us you need a few key non-stick pieces but it wasn't necessary to have all pieces non-stick. For example you don't need non-stick to boil water, or cook soup.

I prefer the stainless steel.

I got the ones with the black inside... non-stick and can go in the dishwasher which was key to me. If I couldn't throw them in the dishwasher I know they would sit in the sink or I'd never use them

Both. We wre given the ALl-Clad set for Christmas by our parents (They BOTH got it for us lol without realizing so we returned one and bought all of our dishes) and people for birthdays, engament gifts, have been giving us the few non-stick pieces we asked for.

I tend to stay away from most non-stick because I worked for a kitchenware company and though we did sell Tefloan coated pans, we were told that at high temps the coating can come off and you can NEVER use stainless steal or anything non rubber coated in teflon-after time ribs of coating and its poisonous. If you burn anything in non-stick, you really should dump the pan or pot because the cleaning process can damage the coating as can harsh scrubbers. Only supposed to use soft sponges. It's a lot of upkep and you really don't need them that often.

I prefer stainless and have some great cast iron passed down through my family-a little heavy but LOVE it because aside from being a great threat when FH gets huffy you can beat the snot out of i; burn it, scrape it, etc, and it never hurts or changes the pan.

its a tough choice. I always am stainless except for a omlette pan or fry pan because of how it heats up, cleaning (its not that bad unless you really burn the crap out of it), it lasts a lifetime, etc.

If you really just want something to last you like 5-6 years and you really want easy cleanup then get the nonstick

Not into the stainless steel. It's nice it all, but non-stick is better. Look into the Circulon Non-Stick. I have that set and it's great.

I prefer stainless- but non stick is good for like making an omelet. Some stainless (other than those like All Clad) you can throw in the dishwasher. But non stick you have to hand wash so the coating doesn't come off. I have non stick now and am registering for all stainless. I think it is a good idea to have some of both.

Stainless, although you may want one or two non-stick saute/fry pans.

Never use brillo pads on stainless steel. It makes scratches which will cause food to stick.
You can make a paste of baking soda and hot water, let sit for a few minutes and then rub away.

Once a month or so, put some white vinegar in the pans, simmer gently for about 5 minutes and then rinse with warm water. This gets rid of any milky film or spots on the pans and also any greasy residue. Makes them very shiny.

Definitely no telfon....it may cause health risks.
We'll probably go with a stainless set.
