Registry Related - Help in the Kitchen!!

Original post by Bella77

Ok, so I don't cook. With my sister's help I selected a nice Calphalon non-stick set. When FMIL saw it on the registry she said I should change to stainless - that even though it's a little more difficult to clean, they're worth the money and they'll last forever.

TIA!!!

Definitely both - certain dishes work better in certain kinds.

Personally I HATE stainless steel. I have a great set of teflon I have had for years and nothing sticks to them still.... And I cook daily with them.

ditto, I hate stainless. I love my Circulon 2 teflon pots & pans. Wouldn't trade em for anything.

i was so set on the Tefflon non-stick.....but EVERYONE swore to get stainless. then i went to macys and even the sales woman showed me the tefflon and how worn it looked just from being in the store and not even being cooked on yet! i immediately changed my mind to stainless and i'm glad i did.... i did however register for one big tefflon non-stick frying pan which i do use a lot.....but for a set i would DEFINETLY go for stainless. so easy to clean and lasts FOREVER!!!!

nonstick is probably bad for your health.... it degasses when it gets hot (can kill pet birds in the next room just to put a skillet on high heat!), and the chemicals leach off into your food.

as for non-health issues, becuase the coating wears off into your food, the pots will have to be chucked in about 5 years. what a waste of money!

Stainless pots last FOREVER. The best is allclad, becuase the aluminum core distributes heat very well.... but it's A more budget solution is a heavy stainless set with a good aluminum disk bottom. also gets the job done, & will last forever. (If you get metal handles, you'll have to use potholders, but you'll also be able to put the pots in the oven, which comes in handy every now and then.)

For frying burgers / steaks / omlettes, get a cast iron skillet. It works much better than anything else. you'll have to rub it down with oil, only rinse it with plain water, and warm it up on the stove to completely dry it. do that for a year or 2, and you'll have the slickest cooking surface available, and you'll be able to use metal utensils with it

i have stainless steel farberware millenium.. they are wonderful and very easy to clean.. no problems..

These are the best! My mom has had these forever really...and what I love most is that they are so light!
Where did you get them? I'm having a hard time finding somewhere that carries them for my registry.
