I would start now. I started my registry a week after the got engaged. People want to buy you gifts and need some direction as to what you like or you will get a ton of stuff you don't like/need and maybe can't take back.
It doesn't need to be complete andd you can change it. It's just a good idea to be registered for a few things. It's also one less thing you have to do later.

most of the time your shower is a few months befor the wedding. depending on your family...we got $ for our engagement, some little gifts but nobody looked for our registry info yet.
I would say..sometime between now and october, definitely have it done in time for Nov. if you're having a shower that's the right timeframe

Definitely start!! My wedding is in May of 2006 and I've been registered about a month already, and people have already bought me things off my registry!!
It's one of the first questions people ask - 'where are you registered?'

I would also start a registry now. Now that youre engaged, people might start looking for gifts for you.

I would start too - my FMIL made us do it very early and I initially thought it was way too early and a kind of presumptuous to do - but people wanted to and did get us some early gifts - and so far, I've liked everything we've gotten becaused we picked it, so it ended up being really great of her to make us do it early. And, you can always change your registry along the way - really easy to do online.
