Regretting hotel

Regretting hotel

I went with my fiance & sister (MOH) yesterday to show her the hotel where we blocked the rooms. (Executive inn at woodbury). The desk help was nasty, she said that the place was very dry/dull and unattractive and wondered why on earth we chose that over the HIlton Huntington. She brought up the point that it looked more like a roadside motel than a hotel, which I understand. I already sent out all of my invites advising guests that our rooms are blocked off here. I'd like to block some rooms at the Hilton Huntington, but I guess I would have to do it through word of mouth?

I did know that it wasn't the most luxurious place at the time of booking, but the shuttlebus service (as well as it's convenient proximity to the Crest Hollow) was what sold us. Now, I'm wondering if all our guests will share my sister's opinion. It's a shame to have such a nice wedding with everything selected and done so carefully, and then leave a bad impression on our guests with such a subpar hotel. How should I go about blocking rooms at the Hilton and letting my guests know tactfully? Thank you..I lost sleep last night over this.

I had the same thing, since I'm not living in LI I just booked rooms based on proximity and convienence, but in the end had a change of heart and booked at the Melville Marriott (I got a better rate there then at the Huntington Hilton).

When you call the Hilton ask to be transferred to the sales department and let them know you want to block rooms for your wedding. They are very helpful there. I think the girls name that helped me was Laurie or Laura.

Re: Regretting hotel

Thanks for your response. My fiance is going to call the Hilton Huntington and Melville Marriott today to inquire. I already sent out my invites with the information about the other hotel though. Would you tell people through word of mouth about the change?

You may want to make the call today about the new hotel and get word to everyone asap through phone calls, emails and maybe even a small mailing.

That's where we blocked off our rooms, and I went there just 2 weeks ago. The front desk was very nice, and he had a woman take us around to all the different rooms we blocked off. Plus, it was freakin freezing outside, so I thought that was very nice! Yeah, it's not the Hilton, or anything like that, but I figured, my OOT guests have to pay for a RT flight, then possibly a gift, and I didn't want to burden them with a more expensive hotel. The rates were just what I was looking for, the rooms were very neat and clean. I'm sorry you didn't like them, but I'm sure you can get other arrangements at another hotel. The executive Inn doesn't make you cover the rooms that weren't blocked off, so that shouldn't be a problem at all. GOOD LUCK!

Just be careful, while the hotel is very nice I've had a series of problems with their reservations office.

They have told 9 guests on separate occassions that my wedding is cancelled, the block of rooms is cancelled and that they have never heard of the room block before.

Thanks for the replies. It is clean and the rooms are neat. Most of the people there are very nice, including Jessica in sales. They also allow parrots (we have one that we need to bring with us) and so the hotel was a plus for that reason.

They had someone working the front desk last night that was quite belligerent and had a serious communication problem. My sister and I tried to explain to him that we wanted to book a room the Saturday night before the wedding, and wanted adjacent rooms (for ease of preparations). He raised his voice and practically yelled at us and said only if we order a room with double beds. He was like Quentin Tarantino doing a Saturday night live skit. We left and said we'd do it online.

I stayed at the Executive Inn at I have nothing bad to say about them. But if you do want to change the hotel, just block off the rooms in another hotel (and soon) and I would call or send emails to people to let them know. Also you can ask people to mention it to other people. Ex: I am inviting my best friend and her parents, brother, and sister to our wedding, and if I was going to add another hotel, I would tell my friend about the new hotel and ask her to tell her parents and brother and sister. You could eliminate having to tell some people that you know for a fact will not be staying over in the hotel.

I looked into them for room blocking and was not happy at all. We attended a wedding this past weekend, and that's where the room blocking was, and I got to preview the hotel and rooms first hand - it was honestly terrible. The rooms (in the backs, specifically room #301 I believe) were in terrible condition, the door didn't close properly, and the attendant at the front was very nasy. They also had no problem forking over the key to the room after my friend's husband checked in, and didn't ask her for ID - major security issue righ there.

you also might want to look at the Plainview Marriott Residence Inn (off Old Country Road, just off the Seaford Oyster Bay). It's BEAUTIFUL. VERY attractive looking. I can't wait for my guests to see the hotel we reserved for them. And we're having our rehearsal dinner at their restaurant, Baldino's, which is DELICIOUS. They also have a bar, arcade, game room, gym, pool, etc. Check it out!

Re: Regretting hotel

Thanks, Sarah. You are right, the Residence Inn Marriott is very nice and my fiance and I did look there. The only thing we didn't like about it is that it had no shuttle service option. Other than that, we liked it a lot.

Re: Regretting hotel

The Melville Marriott was very nice, and from the looks of their site, it's beautiful. We called them and they use Elite transportation who wants 625.00 to shuttle up to 30 people which doesn't include gratuities. Our last option is the Huntington Hilton I guess. You would think we'd have a better variety of nice hotels around that area, since there's Crest Hollow/ FoxHollow (I know they have their own inn) and Woodbury CC.
