Rehearsal Dinner

Rehearsal Dinner

I am starting to really stress out about the rehearsal dinner. My father, who is from upstate, feels I should invite all of the out of town guests. Problem is, that could be 30-50 people!! Having it at the house is not an option because I will not have the mental energy to throw a party for that many people, plus the wedding party, the night before I get married. Except for my FH, nobody would really be of any help, and I get nervous even thinking about having to do that!
I will have to tell my father that I cannot afford to have all those people at the dinner. We are having a small bridal party, so I have counted 17 people that would be at the dinner.

Has anyone found a restaurant that is in Nassau county that is in the $20pp range?

Re: Rehearsal Dinner

We are having our rehersal dinner at Nick DeAngelo on sunrise highway in Merrick.
$23.95 pp not including liquor. We have about 25 people including the wedding party.
Why are so many of your out of town guests going to be there the night before?? Is your wedding early in the morning?
Could you move your rehersal dinner to two nights before to make it less likely people would be around?
Good luck finding a place.
If you let me know what area in Nassau, maybe I could offer some more suggestions.
PS. Don't make yourself crazy by having it at your house!! You will have enough going on without having to play happy hostess to a party you didn't want to have!

Re: Rehearsal Dinner

I am not going to invite all of the out of town guests to the rehearsal dinner. Since my FH and I live out of state and have for several years, a lot of our friends will be traveling. In fact, most of our quests will be from out of town. I don't want to have such a huge prodcution the night before my wedding. I don't think you need to worry about it. If your Dad keeps giving you a problem, tell him to plan and pay for it

Good luck

Re: Rehearsal Dinner

Perhaps you could do what my FH and I are thinking of doing...
We are getting married on a Friday night, and instead of having people come the night before, we're considering a Sunday brunch the weekend before. I think brunches could be a little less expensive, and then that eliminates the out of town guests....just a thought. Good luck!

Re: Rehearsal Dinner

Thanks for the replies

I have so many from out of town because I am from upstate originally and I have a large extended family. My bridal party also are all out of state!

I sent my father an email explaining the details of why the out of towners could not come, which was financial, and would put us over budget. I also explained how I didn't want to worry about throwing a huge party the night before. I figured that left it open to him to either pay for the extra people, or help with the party. He opted to see it my way and not invite the out of towners. Funny how when I talked to him on the phone about it, he didn't get it, but in an email he got it

One less worry!

Thanks also for the tip on the restaurant on Sunrise Hwy. I will check it out this week.

Re: Rehearsal Dinner

I'm glad your father came around. We decided from the beginning out of town guests will not be invited for the same reasons - part financial and not to have two big parties one after the other.

We are going to CP Michaels in Floral Park. For buffet it's 26pp including tap beer/wine/soda or 28pp for sit down dinner.

Re: Rehearsal Dinner

Annabella's in Farmingdale has great food and is less than $20 a head. I think the Wantagh Inn and the Library Cafe are around $20 as well.

BK Sweeneys in Bethpage (also have one in Garden City) is about $18 a head and Peppercorn's in Hicksville is about the same. Good luck!

Re: Rehearsal Dinner

I also annot afford to have every out of town guest at our RD. I think it is insane for anyone to except you to. I mean, you are paying for a wedding the next day. But if you Dad wants them there just let him know you would be more than happy for him to throw the dinner.
There are tons of nice places. Do you have a local Italain resturant that you love? If so, ask them. THey might be able to work with you on price. I am only going to offer beer, wine, soda, coffee/tea at mine. No hard alchol. That helps to keep the price down.

Re: Rehearsal Dinner

Is it absolutely REQUIRED to have a rehearsal dinner? We are getting married at the reception location and only have the bestman/matron of honor....this just seems like another expense..
THANKS

Re: Rehearsal Dinner

FH's aunt and uncle offered to pay for a restaurant, but we will have a lot of people there, so we opted to have a BBQ/party at their house. His aunt is a chef, so we know the food will be good, we wont be rushed out of the restaurant and eveyone can relax and drink (2 nights before to alleviate hangovers)
