Rehearsal dinner at home?

Rehearsal dinner at home?

Has anyone done this? I think it would add way too much stress. Do you think it would save much money? Thoughts?

We're having our rehearsal dinner at home. We made the decision to save money (everywhere we looked into was at least $40 per person) and b/c we wanted it to have more of a 'comfortable' family style ambiance to it.

For my brother's wedding we had the RD at our house. I don't remember it being stressful for my mom, it was fun and casual.
I actually would have prefered doing that than going to a restaurant like we did for mine-it was to stuffy and not social enough.

I like parties at home but be careful, you can spend just as much money. Sometimes I have parties at home and think 'God, I could have done this out and not have to clean up' but I like the comfort of home. You just have to have a set menu and budget. I always order too much food bit better to have too much than to little.

That's part of what I am worried about. We would probably have at least 40 people and then it's a matter of where would they sit? We would have to rent tables and chairs on top of ordering food. And the set up/clean up will be difficult since we have to to go the rehearsal first and have the wedding the next day. Ahhh!

My FIL's did this For my FBIL and FSIL, and the way they did it definitely did not save money. They really went all out with the food, and my FMIL did it all..for about 3o people

We had a catered BBQ two nights before the wedding - it was great!

i kinda like the idea of a backyrd bbq! maybe have a helper come in! Just more relaxed, easier to mingle/chat with everyone and more laid back... something FH and I have to decide on...

I don't think it would cause too much more stress. I guess the only pain would be cleaning up after the dinner.

Just give yourself enough time. It looks as though we're having our rehearsal dinner at home too so we planned it for a week before the wedding so we didn't have to worry about cleaning up late the night before.

Ours was at home and it was very nice. It wasn't stressful at all. We did a little decorating and we had the food catered. It was a nice night in September, we wound up hanging out outside for most of the night. I loved having it at home. Very laid back, and casual and everyone got to mingle.

i think a RD at home would be great! everybody will have to be all dressed up and formal at the wedding, so its nice to keep it casual and laid back the night before- helps to cut down on the nerves a little.....
i don't know if your church has a room, but my friend just had her RD at her church in the fellowship hall..... the church already had tables and chairs there, so they didn't have to rent them- they just got trays of stuff from an italian restaurant near by ( baked ziti, chicken parm, etc)... it wasn't too expensive, and it was nice and laid back- and it was nice having everything in one place. her RD was on friday, so her family just went thursday night and set everything up so they didn't have much to worry about on friday....

As long as you have the room, I think it is a great idea.
