If my wedding is on a Sat afternoon, my rehearsal is on Friday night at 7...
do I have the dinner before the rehearsal?
And, my mother wants to invite the whole family (she has 5 brothers and sisters) to the dinner.. I think that's too much.. I mean the bridal party with guests are 20 alone... I am not sure who exactly is invited to the dinner....
and after reading the other post, I guess I should book the dinner soon...
what do you guys think?

Re: Rehearsal Dinner concerns....
we are getting married on a Friday & our rehearsal is Wednesday night at 7. We are doing something after the rehearsal (not sure if we are doing dinner or just coffee & cake)
As to your mom inviting all her sisters/brothers, that is something you need to discuss with her. We are only inviting the BP & readers...We do not want a big 'to-do' as the wedding is 2 nights later...So the smaller the better, in our eyes!
Good luck!

Re: Rehearsal Dinner concerns....
We have our rehearsal on Fri night at 7pm and dinner following.
Is your mom close with her siblings? Are you? I have a similar situation, my mom is one of 6 and wants her siblings and their children to be there. I'm really close with most of them so I agree but, it also doubles the numbers. My dad is one of 4 so they will all have to be invited as well.
I talked to my FH about it and we decided we will have them there, even though it will make the party more than double the amount of people.

I'm pretty close with them, the problem is they all live in Vermont so they will all be in for the wedding and my mother thinks it will be obnoxious to not invite them and have them to get dinner for themselves.......

Rule of thumb, if the OOT guests are in town when the rehearsal happens, you are technically suppose to invite them as a gesture. We are avoiding this by doing it the day before everyone arrives!

Re: Rehearsal Dinner concerns....
Technically the rehearsal dinner is for those involved with the actual wedding day ceremony and reception, not the guests. My entire family is coming in from out of state (CA, OH, VA) and from Buffalo/Rochester for my wedding and they are not invited.
We're having the church rehearsal at 5:30pm and dinner is set at 7pm at a near-by restaurant. Those invited are the bridal party and their husbands/BF. The groomsmen and their wives/GF, both sets of parents, the readers, those bringing up the gifts and the person reading the prayer of the faithful - each is allowed to bring their wife/husband/significant other. That's it. Total in all 27 including the bride and groom.
This dinner is also used as a thank you for those who are helping you out. We're giving our wedding party gifts at dinner, along with the gifts to our parents and probably a bottle of wine to those reading, etc at the Church.

My rehersal is earlier this month b/c the Pastor will be OOT before our wedding...we decided to put off the dinner until the night before the wedding so we could treat our OOT guests to dinner with our BP and close family. It's shaping up to be about 45 people but FMIL is helping with the bill. We wanted dinner with the OOT guests anyway and some of the BP will be staying int he hotel with me so instead of leaving some people out or having 2 dinners (which we can't afford) we decided to do one large dinner.
Do what makes you happy- FH and I don't like to exclude people and our OOT guests and family mean a lot to us- forget tradition unless it's what you want. Nothing against those who keep it small- you don't want to have things get to be the size of the wedding!! Find what works for you and go with it!!

It's a lot of people but, it will be a nice opportunity for you to spend some more personalized time with them (since there will be a lot more people at your wedding).
