Rehearsal dinner drama

FMIL offerered to pay for the rehearsal dinner way back when we got engaged.. 2 years ago. I know money is a bit tight right now so i looked up some pricing for what i thought were reasonable priced places a few months ago. I printed her a list of prices and menus and everything and asked for her to look over it.. Well 2 months later FH tells me the places were too expensive and we have to find cheaper places.... I am pissed since the places i found were decently priced for the amount of people wed need to invite and for the fact that this is the one thing they offered to pay for. They had 2 years to save up and in the last 6 months they bought a new plasma TV (they already had a really nice one) and a bedroom set (which is sitting in storage since they are still using their old set..)

About how much did your rehearsal dinners come too? and with how many people? I just want to show FH what the average cost is for a RD.

Dont quote me i might edit this later if i let FH read it.

We got trays of food from an Italian restaurant and had it at BIL's house by the pool. 10 people, $400 or so.

I would just try and comprimise or maybe offer to pay for a portion of it, or the bar tab or something...you never know what might be going on behind closed doors...

My FMIL is doing our RH dinner too...but I feel like she is going to overboard...they have done the Engagement Party, they are doing the RD and they are doing a Sunday brunch after the wedding! I don't want them to go broke over all this...even though its really really really nice of them to do!!!!

All the places we looked at were between $25 and $35 per person. Obviously the higher priced ones include more as far as appetizers and drinks. Maybe you can find a place that serves the food family style, this would save you and everyone would get a taste of everything. The best part would be it would kinda be like a buffet without having to get up and serve yourself.

we had to pay for rd ourselves bc dh parents where going through a divorce and couldnt afford anything,

we ourselves were on a tight budget and almost maxed out so we went to a local bar and grill, including tip it was less then $400.00, i think we had about 18 people, But what saved us alot was we paid for water, soda, coffee and tea. But if you wanted beer, wine etc, it was cash bar

this was what i got quoted too for most places i looked at. i think i'm nixing the rehersal dinner though. we're not doing a church so it was kind of a waste for us. we'er taking the OOTs out for dinner instead.
