Rehearsal DInner Etiquette

Hi kids,

Just wanted to ask what is the procedure for mother's of the bride at the rehearsal dinner...what should my mom bring, or offer my fmil? This is my fmil's party and my mom doesn't want to step on toes, but she also doesn't want to look like she's ungratful.....it's going to be at my fiancee's house, catered, for about 40 people (some of whom will be my out of towners...)....what do you think?

Good luck and we're all praying for great weather for all of us!!!

Well it all depends on the big picture. What are both parents paying for in general. If your mom is paying for other aspects of your wedding and is simply looking to not go "empty handed", then she should ask your FMIL what she can contribute to....some ideas are paying for dessert/occassion cake, contributing to the liquor bill (always a hefty tab), flowers &/or other decorations....

I think its wonderful that your FMIL is hosting this for you. Mine made no such offer and since my dad had already done so much for us, we had to pay for our own rehearsal dinner. Cost us close to $700! Be sure to give her a big fat kiss!

:o)

I know....they actually never complained about it, accepting the "traditional duty" of the groom's parents. I know for a fact she's going all out, so we're lucky.

My parents are paying for the whole wedding, my dress, etc. but my mom doesn't want to go to his house empty-handed.

I also had my wedding at the Milleridge, but in the Carriage House & live in Queens. Honestly, at 12:30AM, I could have gone home in my Honda Civic and it wouldn't have mattered (I was soooo tired!). We shared cars w/family members and my sister drove us home.

I think bringing the occassion cake (around $50-60) or a really nice centerpiece would be lovely.

Or on a smaller, more intimate level, maybe a nice corsage for the FMIL w/a really, really good after dinner wine/brandy/etc. for their private use would be a nice way to say your mom appreciates their efforts!

I would say, your Mom should ask your FMIL if she could help decorate or pick anything up for her. If she ask's can I help in any way, some people might think there offering to buy something. Your Mom is paying for enough already. I don't know your FMIL, but mine would say could you buy this or that.. So be careful on the wording of the gesture.

I went to go see Jack & Rose this weekend based on all the positive discussions I read on this website. Therefore, I felt I needed to express my opinion of how this experience went for me.

My fiancee and I met with Jack. They have a nice store front which indicated to me that this was going to be retail prices.
