Rehearsal Dinner Q...

Rehearsal Dinner Q...

FH & I are considering possibly having the Wedding the day after Thanksgiving in 2010. However, the RD and practice then becomes a problem. We don't want to drag everyone out on Thanksgiving night because I feel like people would get annoyed. Also, we have some out of towners in our BP, so we wouldn't want to ask them to come in Wednesday for a RD and then go home Thursday for Thanksgiving and then come back Friday for the Wedding. Nor would we really want them to have to miss Thanksgiving with their families if that was very important to them. We also don't have the accomodations in either of our homes to host a Thanksgiving Dinner for the Bridal Party.

Any suggestions? Or just scratch the day after Thanksgiving idea?

No offense at all.... I would reschedule though. A lot of people look forward to making it an extended wknd and spend it bt. families / inlaws. Its alot in a short time and people may feel 'Stuffed' or exhausted....lol. For both of you as well.

I have to agree with Christina. The day after Thanksgiving is usually a relax and recoup day for a lot of people. Also, if a lot of people go out of town for Thanksgiving, chances are they won't be able to make it back in time for the wedding.

The weekend of thanksgiving is one of the biggest and most expensive travel weekends of the year. Just to keep that in mind, if you do pick the day after Thanksgiving, I would just not have a rehearsal or RD. If you could avoid it, I would try not to have ur wedding the day after thanksgiving. JMO

i don't see a problem with having your wedding then-i think some people might like the fact that it's on a long weekend, and it would be a great way to extend the festivities imo..

maybe you could do your rehearsal a week before? i agree that wed or thurs prob wouldnt be the best..

but maybe the friday before? that would still give ppl time to get ready for the holiday and your wedding

I think even if you resolve the RD dinner date you still are asking people to travel on thanksgiving night if they are coming from OOT. You will want your BP there all day on Friday so they would have to travel on thanksgiving and if you have other OOT guests they might have to travel that day depending on how far they are coming.....I say pick another date

I think Friday after Thanksgiving is fine to have your wedding as long as you don't plan on a lot of your guests coming in from OOT (very expensive to travel) and a lot of people won't want to be in the airport the day after Thanksgiving. I would do the rehearsal the week before.

My brother's wedding was the Saturday after thanksgiving and I thought everything went really well. Some of his OOT friends did not attend, but many friends he grew up with and moved away, came home for thanksgiving and hence were able to attend.

The reason he had it that weekend was that we have a HUGE family (13+ cousins) and that weekend we knew they would all be home from various colleges anyway. His wedding was at the reception hall so there was no rehearsal dinner. We did have a brunch the Sunday after the wedding at the hotel for everyone.

Another idea would be to skip the dinner but have a short rehearsal on the morning of the wedding

Thanksgiving is just a terrible time to travel. I think a lot of your out of towners might opt to stay home, rather than travel during that busy time. I'd consider planning it for a different weekend.

Re: Rehearsal Dinner Q...

personally as a guest, i would prefer not to go to a wedding on a holiday weekend, especially the day after thanksgiving. I went to one for a friend years ago and it was just way too hectic of a weekend. i had family visiting from out of town and didn't get to spend any time with them. plus, like some others said, it is a terrible time to travel - airports are mobbed, flights are expensive, and the traffic is a nightmare on black friday.
