Related to BM dress....

Do you think $265 is too much for a BM dress? (Before tax and alterations) I absolutely love the dress we picked and all the girls love it but I feel like some of them may/are ticked at the price tag. Have any of you encountered this? How did you deal with it? I am thinking of offering to pay for part of everyones dress to make it a little easier. It's not like I set out to pick an expensive dress it just sort of happened! Any ideas?

I just got my bm dresses today. I hate having them have to pay for the dress, but 265 isn't too bad.

I personally think it is. It's not the price tag alone (can they get it online at a discount maybe or through RK Bridal's no frills program) it's the shoes, the alterations, the hair, the makeup, the gift to you and your fi and all the other wedding expenses. It really adds up and not all your girls might be able to afford that. Speak to them and feel them out. Good luck!

i think its alot. there are so many other costs that your BMs are going to have as well, and i know i felt bad that they even had to pay $120 for my dresses... what is it that you love about the dress so much? is it possible to find something similar? you can probably find almost the exact dress somewhere else for so much cheaper if you just do some research

Re: Related to BM dress....

Price depends what stage of life your BM's are in. If they are in college or grad school then 265 is a lot. If they are more established or have well paying jobs then it is manageable. The other thing you might also factor in is if any of the girls have to travel from out of state. Those costs really add up.

When I asked my girls to be my BM's I asked each of them individually for price ranges that they were comfortable with. One wanted about $150 and the others were fine with above $300. I ended up getting the dress for $209. I negotiated the dress from $233 (you might be able to see if your sales person is able to do that for your dresses).
I am getting them scarves and jewelry. One is OTT but I told her that she could stay at my parent's house, and my parents happen to be driving up to her state the day after my wedding so they will bring her home. That saved her money so she was fine with the cost of the dress. Sorry for rambling. I hope this helped.

Thanks ladies...I appreciate your honesty. I think I will try to make up for the cost elsewhere. Thanks for your help!

For something they are only gonna wear one night of their lives...yea thats a lot...especially since it doesnt even include alterations yet (or tax probably for that matter either)

I've honestly spent that much on a BM dress before. But as the ladies said it depends on their position in life. Some people will also not be willing to pay that much even if they can.

that definitely is a little pricey. sorry! it's just that by the time they do your shower, the bach party and the alterations and gifts and other little things that they'll need it's going to be pretty pricey.

I personally think it's a lot. It does have a lot to do with their financial situation. But the girls do have a lot of other things to pay for like the shower, bachelorette party, hair, shoes, etc.. Everything adds up so quickly.

Good Luck!!!

IMO it is too expensive. Unless your BM are willing and able to pay that.

Before I even went BM shopping I asked the girls honestly what they thought they'd be spending on a BM dress...they all said less then $200....guess I made them happy with the $131 price tag!

Re: Related to BM dress....

So this is what I did. First I emailed everyone the dress and told then to look at it. They ALL LOVED IT! So that was a start. then I called each girl individually and told them it was not my intention to find an expensive dress it just happened. Then I went on to say before I made the final decision I wanted to discuss it with each girl to see how they would feel about the price. Each girl luckily said they didn't have a problem with it. I am very lucky to have such great BMs! But I do realize the additional expense and although as a BM in the past I of course knew that being in a wedding is very expensive, I am going to do something additional for them to help with the cost in addition to the presents whether it be pay for their shoes, hair or makeup. It won't be much but hopefully it will lighten the burden for them. Just thought I would share how I handled it. I know some of you are in the same boat!

Also I just wanted to add,
I did offer each girl to pay for part of the dress. Although none accepted I think it at least made them understand that I am concerned and genuine and I am not just trying to get them to spend their money. If I were to go back and change what I did I would have asked them individually what they would feel comfortable paying for their dress and see what they said.

I think it's alot, but if your girls can afford it, go for it. It's too bad that most of these dresses will only be worn once. I don't think I've ever worn a bm dress twice.
