relating to black tie optional post....

We're having black tie optional. groomsmen are obviously renting tuxes but grooms dad said he doesn't want to wear a tux. do u think he should? I feel like he should. what's ur opinion on this?

i think your FH's father should def be wearing a tux.

i have having a fairly low-key wedding (not black tie optional ... plus it's a Sunday daytime wedding) and both our dads are renting tuxes.

I think he should do what he wants.

If you FORCE him to wear a tux he will be uncomfortable and cranky. Isnt it better that he is just happy and comfortable?

If it means a great deal to you, talk to him about it. Is it the renatl $$? Is it that he is skeeved by rental clothing? Is it that he might just feel too fancy and its NOT him??

Find out the reason he does not want to. Maybe that will help you talk to him and let him know its important to you.

If you dont care, let it go and let him wear what he wants.

Good luck!

ETA: I think he should wear a tux with above caveat.

ITA... regardless of black tie or casual... the Fathers should be wearing what the GMs are wearing...

I would say that if the GMs are all wearing tuxes than the father's should wear tuxes as well with a different color tie/vest

I agree, if the groomsmen are wearing tux's so should the Dads. That said, if it's REALLY going to ruin his day and you don't mind what he wears, then have him wear a very nice black suit.

ITA w. most of the posts. The dads should definatly be in tuxes but then again if he is going to be sooo unhappy in a tux then dont make him wear it... you dont want him to have a 'face' on all night...

I'm having a formal wedding. GMs are in tuxes, but I think dads can wear a nice suit. It doesn't bother me. I guess I never really thought about that.

Traditionally, they both wear Tuxes. Not sure what kind tux you're GM are wearing, but if it's the vest and tie type, it's not much different than a suit anyways. He can always take off the vest after the ceremony?

I think he should wear what he wants. if he wants to wear a nice suit, i say let him. you don't want to start trouble over something like this
