Relinquishing GUN CONTROL

Relinquishing GUN CONTROL

Me and FH were walking through Fortunoff the other day. We had not registered yet but plan to very soon. We noticed many of the engaged couples registering. The men were of two types:

1)Those who were REALLY into it - actively helping their FWs choose china and whatnot.

and

2)Those who would rather be ANYWHERE else.

The only commonality between these two groups of men were the fact that THEY ALL HAD THE GUNS!!! Ladies, when did you give up the right to bear arms?!?!?!

I think the only way I am going to get my FH there without him kicking and screaming is to give him the memory of his childhood when kids were allowed to play with toy guns happily without repercussion. Do all of the FH's think that having possession of this device makes them more manly in a femme world of registering?

I thought maybe some stressed brides could use this laugh.

My FH and I were probably one of the couples that you saw!! Since day one, he has demanded that he will be the one holding the 'gun'. That's fine with me as long as I get the final say on all other decisions. I did threaten to take it away from him the first and only time he screwed something up.

Oops...I had a couple of typos!

I just wish mine would go with me!

FH allowed me to hold the gun in Fortunoffs and Macys. I allowed him to hold it in Target and I now have Kit Kat bars on my registry (serves me right)

I HATED using the gun. I couldn't figure out how to use it properly! Every time I tried to scan something I would add 44 items accidentally or somehow manage to turn off the gun. I just handed it over and concentrated on china patterns!

I don't think I'll have a problem getting FH to register...(I think he's more excited about it than I am)...however, I know him and he'll want the final say and the gun...

FH was so excited to be able to scan stuff.. granted in every store we registered for we had to go back and 'fix' things. at my job i have to scan all the shoes once a week.. its the same type of scanner.. i hate doing it.. so i was glad that he wanted to do it.

My FH had it too, but I gave it to him as a sign of 'peace' in having to go shopping (kinda) with me! We had fun and he had opinions on everything. His favorite phrase was, 'Why not?!'

mine had his toy in his hand too!

You gotta make it interesting for them there! I understand. Though mine was very helpful and involved. Made it much easier for me!

FH assumes he's gonna have control.

FH actually threw a temper tantrum in the store! I wanted to scan something and he was like 'but you said I could do it' all whiney and crap. Thats when I threw my hands in the air and said fine, its all you!

We registered at 3 places. First was Crate & Barrel and he told me upfront that his 2 reasons for going were to hold the gun and to annoy me. He succeeded at both.

Even the gun wasn't a good enough reason to make him go to the 2 other stores though, after 1 he had had it. I just did them on line and showed him what we're getting!

Good luck!

FH is one of those who is really into registering. Last time FH and I went to Fortunoff's to update our registry and we were choosing our towels. Well, the couple next to us (also registering) proceeding to get into an all out yelling match b/c he didn't like the towels she was picking (okay, I wasn't eavesdropping...they were yelling very loud!). It was so uncomfortable that FH and I actually left the towel area and came back 1/2 hour later- people get CRAZY!!

I am just so excited to do this. I am ITCHING for a quesadilla maker. That is the only thing I want to 'shoot' with my gun. FH can do everything else.

By the way, does anyone know if you actually have to make an appointment to register, or do you just go there and they give you the gun? Do they do background checks before they give the guns over?

If it makes you feel any better, FH registered us for Godiva chocolate at Fortunoff. He was actually disappointed when I didn't get it at my shower. Ugh...

I don't need to have a child, I'm MARRYING one!!!

It depends on where you want to register...Crate & Barrel on Madison said we didn't need an appointment but Macy's 34th Street did. I would call and check just to make sure.

Good luck!

Re: Relinquishing GUN CONTROL

I think it might be funny to share all of the goofy things our FH's found the need to register for. Either that or the things you are shocked that they want.

Example: My FH wants a potato masher so I can make potato pancakes just like his mommy (awwww -puke)

DH had to control the gun EVERY time... He said if he was going to pick out chine he was going to control the gun for everything else - It was kinda funny....
