Re: Relocating...

All I want to add is that after 7 years of doing the Long Island to Manhattan commute (1.5 hours each way, late trains, no trains, Penn Station closed, etc.), I got sick of it. 3 hours of my day was wasted. On a packed rush hour train, sleeping isn't so easy, reading the paper or a book is a better option, but I felt I could do a lot more with my time. I got the same type of job on LI and now have a 5 minute commute to work!!

So my advice - try and stay west of Huntington. Any further out and your commute is just too long!! I used to commute from Rockville Centre and that was 35 minutes express. Then after we bought our house, I commuted from Syosset. That was 50-60 minutes. 20 minutes is a huge difference!!

Re: Relocating...

chmlengr you are totally right. The commute ***** east of Huntington. People think it is so excited to work in NYC- until they take the LIRR everyday.

Re: Relocating...

i agree w/all of the girls who said don't move east of huntington--too far to travel everyday----my friend commuted to the city and stopped b/c she would wake up to take a train that was a half hour earlier just to get a seat on the ronkonkama line---3 hour a day commute is nuts to me!!!....try farmingdale/hicksville/massapequa ---try to go to a town where the line is right there---good luck in your search!!:)
