Mark and I went for a walk after having dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was in such shock; I really wasn't expecting it. After saying yes, we walked home arm in arm in a wonderfully foggy daze before telling all of our family and friends...
I love thinking about that moment!!!

Re: remember the moment...
FH was complaining that we didn't get to go pumpkin picking and that he was going to a local fruit and vegetable store to pick up pumpkins.. all I kept telling him was not to make a mess!!!
So later on he told me he didn't get any pumpkins and I dind't think much of it.. When I got home from work, on our end table was this ginormous carved out pumpkin glowing from the candle he put inside..
He asked me to take a look inside to make sure he wasn't setting anything on fire and when I looked down, I was like OH MY GOD.. inside the pumpkin was my ring, opened and in the box..
I backed into a corner and he came running over and said.. 'wait.. I have to propose'!!! and then he did and the rest is history..

Re: remember the moment...
FH and I went down to Florida to see his grandparents. We got down there on a Saturday. That night his grandmother makes a nice dinner and we are all hanging out in the house. His grandfather went out in the front and screams 'Michael, come see how beautiful the sunset it' and his grandmother says 'No, they are going to see the sunset tomorrow.' That was the first I heard of it so I looked at him but he didn't say anything.
The next day we go to dinner with his grandparents and his uncle. Mike was very anxious to get home early so we could go down to the beach to see the sunset. This is when I got really suspicious. His uncle was showing us how to get down to the beach. So in the car I told him that he was acting weird. Then he made some comment about how he should ask his uncle if he wanted to come. I was so disappointed, I really thought this was going to be it.
We finally get there and the sun already started setting. So we started walking on the boardwalk. He stopped someone to take a picture of us. After the first picture he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I said 'Of Course'

We were in bed, spooning, but just talking regular talk. He was talking about us and how much he loved me. He took my hand into his and asked me to be Mrs.P? I said yes, he slipped the ring onmy finger. Then I jumped out of the bed turned on the light and called my mom!!

Re: remember the moment...
FH and I were in Turks and Caicos on vaca with my sister and her bf, my roomate and her sister, and 3 other friends of ours. I was in a pissy mood. Just how you thought an engagement would start out right . Well, our friends were driving me nuts so FH says, babe lets go take a nap. Im like awesome lets go. So we go back to the room and I get out of my suit and in bed and he's like ya know what, let's go for a walk. So I say no, lets take a nap. We go back and forth for a bit and he goes outside to smoke a ciggarett and I get dressed .
We went for a walk onto the peir at sunset and talked about how deep we each thought the water was. It was so clear that you really couldn't tell. He said he had something in his pocket we could drop in to see how deep it was. I turned around to take the 'coin' and there he was, down on one knee.
The rest is history.

Re: remember the moment...
I love this post- such happy memories!
The day fi proposed was pretty much like anyother weekend day. My car's lease was about to be up so we had planned to spend the day car shopping for me. I was totally stressed out & getting grouchy (i hate car stuff) I had my heart set on getting a mini cooper, but was getting terrible prices- i was so discouraged. Finally he says lets go to the mini dealer in the hamptons. It was a beautiful day, so why not! We drive out east & I ended up getting the cutest mini cooper ever, i was so psyched.
Afterwards we decided to go have lunch in Montauk, since we were almost there already. Lunch was great & then we decided to go to the beach at the Montauk Lighthouse to hang out. Traffic was terrible, but he was totally determined to keep going (this is when i should have known something was up). We finally get to the beach & instead of just sitting down he keeps saying lets go over here, no over here- he has me walking all over... then out of the blue he just turns to me with this look & launches into this huge speech about how he loves me & how he's been waiting to do this (it felt like it went on forever)... he gets down on one knee & pulls out the ring which he'd been carrying all day! I was so shocked that it was happening right then, it was the absolute last thing on my mind that day. Of course I say yes & we start hugging & kissing! When I finally looked up there was a whole bunch of people on the beach who stopped to watch & were applauding! It was so fun!!! I'm getting giddy just thinking about it!
We hung out at the beach some more & then started our drive home. I'm still surprised that I never cried, i think it was just too shocking! I've also told him that I think I went deaf during his little proposal speech- it was like time stood still, i could see his lips moving, but all i could think was i can't believe this is finally happening to me! i asked him like 5 times if he was 'sure' before i said yes! lol!
great thread!

Re: remember the moment...
FH really wanted me to move in with him and I really didn't want to do it until we were engaged. But it was getting to the point that my student loans were going to kick in and I didn't think I'd be able to afford living on my own anymore, so it was either in with him or home with my parents, which possibly would lead to the death of my relationship. My lease was up on the 1st of the month but my landlord let me stay until the 3rd or 4th which was a weekend. So I moved in with FH but he knew I was really unhappy about it. I also knew that he bought me a ring so he had it someplace!
He asked me to go out on a date with him the following Friday night. I knew right then and there we were getting engaged b/c he RARELY does that. We went to the city, we ate at Ruth's Chris and then went to see the tree. I figured he would do it there but then he wanted to do the carriage ride. As we came by St. Patrick's Cathedral, he proposed. It was very sweet but we were both very nervous b/c I knew it was going to happen and he knew I knew! It was the same kind of nervousness you had when you had your first kiss, ya know? I kept laughing b/c I do that when I'm nervous and he kept saying 'stop laughing at me!' It was pretty funny and it was a great night!

Re: remember the moment...
Yes I do! I work at the Credit Union in his Fire District. His Mother and Father both have accounts with me and so it wasn't anything out of the ordinary to have Virginia come and visit me at work. While she was sitting at my desk the Chief of the Department showed up with the lights and sirens blaring. Evan and an over packed engine showed up a moment later. Having dated a volunteer for 3 years I kind of knew how their operations worked. So Evan sent some of the guys all over the building. His Father came in (which like I said isn't anything unusual, especially since he has 35+ years in the department as well) and was standing near the front with the rest of us waiting to be told to exit the building. The Chief gave the order for all other units to return to the houses when the dispatcher said they had a basement fire!! Evan came up behind me and in full gear got down on one knee and asked me to turn around. He had a ring box in his hand and asked very simply 'Will you marry me?' My first reaction was 'HUH?!' And got told there was no alarm, my branch manager had pulled the alarm to get them there! Of course I said yes and after they left I started to hyperventilate and almost had to have them come back with an ambulance I was so in shock!!

it was christmas eve and he had 'one more present,' it was a construction paper book complete with a sweet poem and pictures. The last line of the poem was 'This is when I asked you to be my. . . .' I looked up and he was on his knee holding the ring! It took me about ten minutes to actually say yes and to look at the ring! Then we ran out to tell his family, and drove over to tell my family.
Great thread - I was just thinking about how that was the happiest day of my life!
ETA: what made it MORE special was that i had no idea that he was even THINKING of marriage!
What a great story!! This brought a tear to my eye

Re: remember the moment...
What a sweet topic I loved reading all you girl's stories. Mine was simple. It was pouring and he was on his way to my house, he wanted to get there before me to talk to my parents and ask their permission. I got there and he was waiting outside in the rain, no one was home. I know he was annoyed but I thought it was just because he had to wait in the rain for a few min. About 10 min after I got home my parents walked in so he was trying to figure out a way to talk to them without me there. He told me I should change my shoes because the ones I was wearing were open toed and it was raining and he said I would complain if my feet got wet. So I went downstairs to change and that's when he asked my parents.
We went to dinner and I couldn't figure out why he wasn't talking so I just kep running my mouth! We left the restaurant and got back to my house we parked down the block and on the way from the car to the house he was saying all these sweet things to me about what it took for us to meet and get together, but I didn't think anything of it because we had the same conversation a few weeks earlier. Then we got to my house and as I was going to put the key in the door he says 'I just want to ask you...' I turn around and he's on his knee! I started crying and he had to ask me if that was a yes. It was crazy I had no idea!!

Re: remember the moment...
FH took me to a restaurant on Lexington in NYC. It had a live piano player on the main floor, and we ate on the 2nd floor. He asked me after dinner. We were about to leave and he gave me a hug and then got down on his knee with the ring in his hand. As soon as he got down on his knee I freakedddddd out and pretty much tackled him! LOL I LOVE thinking back to that moment! I'll never forget it
