Remembering my father

Remembering my father

My father passed away a few years ago and I want to find a way to incorporate his memory into the service. I am just at a loss on how to do it. I would really appreciate some ideas on how to tastefully include him.

Re: Remembering my father

There is a 'Late Parent Thread' on here, where girls are sharing how they are incorporating the memories of their lost ones in their wedding. You should find it if you do a search.

Re: Remembering my father

There are a bunch of good suggestions on the late parent thread.

One thing I'm thinking about doing is hanging a charm in my bouquet. FH suggested I wear my mom's wedding ring. Counts as something old as well as a nice way to keep the memory without turning the wedding into a memorial. Now, to see if my dad is comfortable with me doing that...

first of all, i'm sorry you lost your father ... but it's really great that you're going to incorporate him into the wedding

some suggestions:

you can light a candle for him
read a poem for / about him
have the DJ play his favorite song (dedicate it to him)
have a bouquet charm
get a dove release and release a dove in his name

um ... that's all i've got for now ... i hope that helps

Re: Remembering my father

you can leave an empty seat at you head table with a rose on it.

I am going to do the bo K charms with my 2 grandmothers pics and my great aunt who was like my 3rd grand mother.
They have some really nice ones that you can get professionally made with there pic on it and then wear it on a necklace later on.

I am also doing a memorial slide show. A lot of my family ( mostly great aunts and uncles) died within the last few years, the same with my FH so we are going to do a slide show with pictures of all the people we have lost .

We are going to mention FH's mother in our wedding program of course. If you are doing a unity candle, you can put in loving memory of your parent. We have also decided that in lieu of favors we are making a donation to the american heart association in her memory.

I am sorry for your loss. FH and I are are incorporating both his brother and my grandfather into our ceremony by having a white rose for each on the alter. The priest will give mention to both of them at some point in the ceremony. I am also wearing a locket with my papa's picture in it as part of my DOJ. HTH!

Walk me down the aisle Dad
You’re the only one who can
Over these scattered rose petals
To where I’ll take his hand

Walk me down the aisle Dad
And fill my heart with peace
Whisper that you’re proud of me
Set my soul at ease

Walk me down the aisle Dad
Though it seems I walk alone
I carry you inside my heart
Life lessons not outgrown

Walk me down the aisle Dad
And dry my endless tears
My life’s forever changing
I miss you more each passing year
If God would grant me just one wish
I’d wish for one more day
For you to walk me down the aisle, Daddy
And give your daughter away.

Re: Remembering my father

We're doing something simple at the beginning of the ceremony to mention FH's father and my grandma, who was a second mother to me:

Dear family, friends and loved ones. We gather here today to celebrate the wedding of Mark and Jacqueline. You have come here to share in this formal commitment they make to one another, to offer your love and support to this union, and to allow Mark and Jacqueline to start their married life together surrounded by the people dearest and most important to them.

So welcome to one and all, who have traveled from near and far. Mark and Jacqueline thank you for your presence here today, and now ask for your blessing, encouragement, and lifelong support for their decision to be married.

Mark and Jacqueline would now like to take a moment to honor the memory of Mark’s father, Louis D*** and Jacqueline’s grandmother, Carmella L***. They are deeply loved and missed, and Mark and Jacqueline wish they could be physically here to partake in their joyous day. However, we do know that they are here with us in spirit and their presence is cherished and a reminder that they are always with us.

In acknowledgement of this purpose and the power of this occasion, let us pray:
