Remembering those who can not be with us...

Hi!
I want to do something special to remember those who can not be with us on my wedding day. I lost my mother when I was younger, as well as my best friend and my grandparents. Does anyone have any ideas??

I have heard of people doing a memorial table. Not sure how to do this though? At ceremony? At RH? I am getting married at the RH... outside weather permiting.

Any ideas would be great.

Thanks!

Our rabbi/cantor is going to sing a song for those that can't be with us.

It will kind of tie in the whole theme for us, that our wedding day is a celebration of our families, as much as a celebration for us.

That's a great idea.

What about the memory table and have pictures of them and maybe a poster board and ask the guests to write something special that they remember about the people who aren't there. We are getting married at a church and we are doing a moment of silence and also FH & I are going to lite a candle for them.

instead of favors, we are donating to the ALS foundation which is what my FH's dad passed from. We will put something on each table letting people know

In lieu of favors a donation will be made to the ALS foundation in loving memory of Louis xxxxx.

I was thinking of doing the same thing as my mother died from cancer and so did my grandpa. My best friend died in 9/11 though... I just wanted to make sure that they are all represented in some way.

How about getting some of the white doves & having them released in memory of the person.

My brother passed and I am doing a memorial candle instead of a unity candle at the ceremony for all those loved and lost ... no names. I am also getting a bo-k charm with his picture to wrap around the stems.

I was going to do a memorial table but my family said it would be too depressing on what should be a happy occassion

I've thought long and hard about this one......I've heard of people leaving a chair empty with some kind of notice about who it's for.....MUCH too depressing for me.....to each his own and it's SUCH a personal thing.
I agree....the day is such a special celebration and I would't want to be too sad remembering the people who can't be with us..but I want to HONOR them and try to celebrate them....here are my ideas~~ memorial candle lighting in church, priests mention of them.
At the reception we're thinking of donating to Alheimers Assoc. (Grandma raised me with Dad and passed last yr. with Alzheimers') I'm thinking of carrying her wooden rosaries in church??
At the RH, I'm putting together a collage of photos (some wedding photos) of our Grandparents (all have passed) and parents (My Mom passed..)
Anyway, i'm a photographer and photo freak, so I know I'll appreciate it there and hopefully my guests will enjoy looking as well! So excited to put that together!
Keep the ideas coming! Love'em!
