my friend works one block from me so we got together today for lunch. I am so glad I very rarely buy lunch in the city.
I got a chicken ceaser rap and a bottle of water and it cost me 10 bucks.
How do people do this everyday? If I did, i'd be broke and having my wedding in the back of McDonalds with happy meals for everyone.
I am so glad I bring my lunch in.

Re: Remind me to never get lunch in the city
I live on 49th in Midtown and all I can say is that the prices are ridiculous!!! I am at the point where my lunch consists of baby carrots and dinner is a can of soup and some veggies.

I can't complain we have a company cafeteria that is actually pretty decent both food and price wise. My lunch averages about $4 for a salad bar salad with a nice piece of grilled chicken

Re: Remind me to never get lunch in the city
I buy lunch everyday and it costs anywhere from $6-9/day and more if I go somewhere like a bar/grill or a restaurant. I can't be bothered bringing my own food...I need variety and can't decide in advance what I want to eat.
wish I had a company cafeteria.....I miss having one....

Re: Remind me to never get lunch in the city
I am not sure if I tend to eat at less expensive places, by lunch averages around $7 without a drink, or $8 after adding soda or tea/coffee. I find it to be somewhat expensive, but not totally outrageous. If I eat at somewhat subsidized cafeteria, than the prices listed above shrink by about $2. For breakfast, I usually spend b/w $1-$2, and try to get it at the cafeteria. Plus we have free starbucks at work!!! I can't complain.

People make fun of me at work because I eat Subway every day! Everything in midtown is too expensive and gross.

Re: Remind me to never get lunch in the city
I work across the street from Radio City and yes it is horrible. Even going to ranch1 you are spending over $7. I bring my lunch from home often. We usually order in from thai or vietnamese restaurants once every 2 weeks to change it up. Au Bon Pain I think is the worst. There is a city market cafe near me that is expensive but the only place I have found the best fresh salads. I treat myself to this once a week or every other week. salad for $6 w/ only three additional toppings, lettuce and dressing!

Re: Remind me to never get lunch in the city
i have great bar/grills and deli's by me, but sometimes i just find it insane to get a sandwhich for 6 dollars when i can make the same thing at home.
i guess with all this wedding planning, my version of saving is by brining in my breakfast and lunch and not buying it.
cost of living in the city is so high. how do people do it

they are a little expensive though
the one thing i love about the city you have so many different types of food but the one thing i hate, it all gets so expensive

Re: Remind me to never get lunch in the city
I don't have time to go out to get lunch (and sometimes I don't have time to eat lunch). However, if I go out to lunch, I usually go once every other month because you can easily blow 10 bucks on something that is not good for you. It's just easier to bring lunch. I usually bring leftovers from the night before - it's so easy to pack!
