Remind me to never get lunch in the city

my friend works one block from me so we got together today for lunch. I am so glad I very rarely buy lunch in the city.

I got a chicken ceaser rap and a bottle of water and it cost me 10 bucks.

How do people do this everyday? If I did, i'd be broke and having my wedding in the back of McDonalds with happy meals for everyone.

I am so glad I bring my lunch in.

I know what you mean!! I eat in the corporate cafeteria almost everyday and even that is not cheap.

I hear ya!!

I thank god that we have a half way decent cafeteria in my building that is also subsidized by the company so I do not get ripped off with lunch. Otherwise, I would be broke by the end of the week. I do allow myself one lunch a week out...it kind of breaks up the routine!

my old firm, i used to treat myself once a week to a cinnabon. every friday morning that was my treat.

we dont have a company cafeteria so its brining in my own lunch

I agree, it ****s! You cant get anything without spending nearly $10 for lunch.

But i get up way to early and am way to lazy to be brining my own lunch so I pay.

$16 just for lunch

prices in the city are way to high.

At night i make my lunch so in the morning all i have to do is just grab it.

this is crazy.

wow. i thought my 10 was bad.

the city is definaly overpriced.

what i have noticed is some things in midtown are a few dollors more for the same exact thing downtown.

And if you get something in the LIRR its unbelievably more then anyplace.

I had to head out to LI and i was getting the train at jamaica and i got a roll and small coffe and it was like 3 bucks.

There are just some things i draw the line on.

I spend an average of $8-10 every day. And that is just a sandwich or salad.
God forbid I meet one of my friends out for lunch

I average between $6.50 - $9 but only 2 or 3 times a week. And I bring my breakfast. Some weeks its every day but it makes me crazy to spend so much $$$ just to get a decent lunch.

I used to work with a woman who only bought Prada or Gucci, fendi sunglasses, jetsetting all over the place, partying with celebs (her friend is a PR person in LA) 300 dollar bathing suits, then lectured a guy i worked with because he blew 150 dollars hanging out in the bar.

starhead i agree. it makes me crazy too. i bring my breakfast and lunch to work. i told FI wow ya know when i think about it and put it down on paper, do you realize how much i am saving. he just laughs at me.

i told him by brining in my breakfast and lunch everyday i save about $240 a month

(i figured 2 dollars a day everyday for breakfast, and 10 dollars everyday for lunch)

once in a while i may treat myself and buy lunch or breakfast, but to do this everyday FI would kill me

I work in the cityand refuse to spend that kind of money for lunch. I brown bag it everyday and when I want to treat myself I go to Mickey D's dollar menu or Pizza!

The prices are insane, add that to your carfare and I don't know how people survive???

To add insult to injury, you pay all this money for lunch and at best its ok. I wouldn't mind so much if the food was really good, but it's rarely even that.

And Chippa - you are so right about how the savings add up. I did this thing for a while a couple years back where for every meal I brought to work I put money in a container, $3 for breakfast, $5 for lunch. After a month this was the money I used for my grocery shopping for the entire next month with some left over!

The prices are really ridiculous. My last job in the city was for a financial firm that had free food for all employees. (Breakfast, lunch and snack) sure we saved tons of money, but we gained tons of weight in return !!

Gotta love those 'business lunches'
