Renters Insurance

Renters Insurance

We have a 1 bedroom in a complex, my ring is not covered by this I have a seperate policy for that. We have 1 new big TV, and other kitchen appliances, a Wii, a small old TV that I don't even care about.

Think 15,000 coverage is enough?

ETA: I upped it. Thank you everyone for their input

probably not. think about what would happen if all of your possessions were lost in a fire. you'd have to replace two wardrobes in addition to furniture.

we really don't have much and we got quoted (which we will probably go with) 35,000. I would up it a little bit as you will probably accumulate more stuff as the time goes as well.

ETA: we noticed with renter's insurance, it wasn't a HUGE increase to go up to 35,000 especially considering it is so cheap to begin with.....better be safe than sorry!

I think steve and I are at 25k. We're paying 169 for the year so it's really not that big of a deal and probably worth it god-forbid something really happened.
Also keep in mind the amount you have on medical and stuff.. actually I'll just FM you lol.

Re: Renters Insurance

Shauna I work in an insurance agency here is the deal.
The best way to figure out how much coverage you need is pretend that you can pick up your apartment like a doll house and tip it over. After you tip it whatever would fall out on the front lawn are your posessions. This includes any and all jewelry, bedding, all furniture, clothes, kitchen appliances, dishes, televisions, ipods, pocketbooks. Make sure you adequately cover yourself.
For the difference in the coverage its such a little cost that you should get a decent amount of coverage. FH and I have 50,000 in coverage the difference was soo small we overestimated. Better to have more than less.
You can FM me if you have any other questions.

This is exactly what our broker told us.

We have our car & renters insurance with Allstate. For our renters insurance we have $35,000 in coverage for personal property & an additional $18,000 for my e-ring. We paid $545 for 6 months, so that $1,090 a year. The coverage on my e-ring is what makes it so high but it would take us 16 years of renters insurance to reach how much my ring is worth. Meanwhile if something happens its only $1,000 deductible.
