Renters..a snow q?

Is the landlord supposed to do something about clearing away snow and ice? or is it our responsibility?

i think the landlord is suppose to do it. my landlord doesn't live here. so if there's snow or ice on the step, i'll shovel and put salt down

Depends on if its stated in your lease. I live in an apartment complex and the super takes care of it. I would think that if your landlord doesn't live there, then it would be the tenants responsibility.

Do you have a lease? Is your landlord out of state or in the area? We used to live in a house where the landlord lived in the area and we made sure he was 100% responsible for snow removal...no way in hell was that going to be our responsibility...especially being you're not the only ones living in the house....not to mention...the sidewalk in front of your house.

we live in a complex. They do it. I just put extra rock salt. I have older neighbors, so really its so they dont slip.

Our landlord told us that they would take care of the driveway. We have to do our own pathway though.

We have no lease, and we're the in basement...so I wouldnlt even think it would nbearly be our responsibility. Plus if someone walked by and got hurt, they'd sue him, right? He doens't live in the house, but he works about a mile away...I'm going to have to talk to him about it to clarify so we know

Your landlord is responsible for clearing out the snow or ice. Unless you have an agreement in the lease that states you will remove it.
If they can't do it, they have to pay someone to clear it.

It's totally his responsibility. Plus...if someone really wanted to sue they'd start with the owner...and work their way through the entire house...and being it sounds illegal...
lets just say we learned the hard way and are now ONLY living in LEGAL apts.

Plus...I think we live in the same neighborhood...FM for details.

I live in a building- they do everything

I do have to say that other building on the block did not- and it made walking to my car a little scary this morning

( I live in Long Beach)

I don't think anyway can sue you if the apartment is legal- but he could get in trouble and you might have to move- they are cracking down on this big time

Yes they are!!! It happened to us...Four months before our wedding...the entire house had to move! It actually ended up being a BLESSING in disguise, but at the time...

Or landlord does nothing! I hate to call him for anything b/c he never gets anything done and I have to call him several times or he will put everything off for months, so we just don't bother unless it is something vital, like a repair or a leak. I think they are supposed to but, we do it ourselves.

I have to read my lease. I didn't know this. I think I will read it and if it doesn't say anything, I will ask him if he can have someone come and do it for him (he is a young guy in his late 40's, but he walks with a cain). I can't wait to read this lease! We break our backs (well mostly dh does the shoveling) everytime we shovel.
