Renters..a snow q?

Is the landlord supposed to do something about clearing away snow and ice? or is it our responsibility?

Unless your landlord makes another arrangement with you, it is his/her responsibility. I used to have landlords who did not live nearby, and they paid a youngish 20 something guy next door to remove the snow. Once when he was away, they called and asked if I could do it, and they told me to deduct money from my rent.

The condition of the apartment is your responsibility, however cleaning the sidewalks is his/her responsibility. At least that's the case in NYC, I'm not sure it's different in LI.

It might be stated in your lease. Our landlord usually takes care of it, or his son does, but they live downstairs. If they don't clear off the snow, then we put salt down on our steps so we don't fall.
