FH and I were looking for apartments and we saw this really nice newly furnished 2 1/2- 3 bedroom apartment (which we really dont need) but its a block from the train (fh works in the city) and near all markets, shopping etc... the neighborhood is really good too. However it is $1,625. Do you know how much landlords lower the price in apartments?
Thing is, for the neighborhood, we saw other apartments and condos for 1 bedroom for $1,350-1,400.. so we figured for a 100-150 more its worth investing in a larger place esp in the future for children... what do you girls think? Also, we wouldnt go thru a real estateeeee which would save us right now.
The kitchen is huge and marble counters, electric stove, stainless steel appliances.. ughhh but $1,625...

Re: renttttt
I think that's kinda high. I am renting out my 1 bedroom condo in Howard Beach for $1,150. Also, rentals should be dropping in price because last year I placed an ad on Craigslist looking for tenants for my 1 bedroom and I was getting tenants telling me they were ok with paying $ 1200 for it.. I would tell the landlord that you are seeing apartments for much less than $1,650 that are even closer to NYC than south Brooklyn.

Its in Brooklyn by Sheepshead bay.
nevermind!! my uncle just put up his apartment in one of his buildings in bay ridge for that price all brand new 3 bedroom.......that would have been funny!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, do you plan on renting long or are you going to start looking for houses?
I think that will help you answer easier. If you plan on renting for a while, then I would say go for the extra room and extra $200. If this is going to be a temporary thing and you plan on looking for a house immediately, then I would say save the $200 and get the smaller one??

Re: renttttt
see the thing is... this wedding is gonna cost us most of our savings, so its not like we are going to have $50,000 or so already invested lol.. It will probably take us a few years... so would it be worth it? I dunno.. I wanna have a kid after like 3 years or so g*d willing of course.. we wouldnt move into a house until AT LEAST 3-4 years.
So would it be worth it? we originally talked about how we would live off his paycheck and put my paycheck directly into savings for a house.

Re: renttttt
honestly... rent a small place.. or rent that place.. and with the $ u make from ur wedding can u put it twds a down payment?? even if its a co-op. ur having like 400 people at ur wedding. prices have dropped. even if its a co-op.. BUY SOMETHING. dont throw 1600$ a MONTH on RENT to pay some1 elses mortgage.
if its tempporary, do it.. but after the wedding u might have enuff for a down payment

Re: renttttt
Sounds about average. I pay $1600 for a large 2 bedroom in a house near the train in Queens. I would have downsized for something that was less $ but we have a dog and apts are hard to find with a little furry friend.

Glen Cove. I've seen 2 bedrooms around here for much more than that price, for us its a good deal.
