Repost for LIF - Key West

DH and I finally decided last night that we want to spend our 1st anniversary on Key West. We know nothing about it though. Has anyone been there? What do you recommend? We plan on going from a Sat to a Wed. Thanks!

We went last year over Labor Day weekend. Just after one hurricane and before another We loved it although we couldn't do any water sports because of the rough seas. We were told it was the quiet season and I'm glad we went when we did because it seemed busy enough for my liking. We stayed at the Marriott Courtyard just outside the center of town and the hotel was wonderful. They had a gorgeous pool and the rooms were very clean and large.

Sorry so long, hope this helps.

Key West was one of the stops on a cruise I went on. I could have stayed a week there.

There is so much to see and do there.

If you're drinkers, you can do a pub crawl tour.

Otherwise, there are trolley tours. Ernest Hemingway's home...Museums...Lots of historical stuff too...Lighthouse...Key LIME Pie! And of course: 'The Southernmost Point In The US!'

We just got back from Key West! I've been there numerous times so here are some of my favorite things to do there:

FURY Catamarans for snorkeling (Located right in the Hilton Marina.)

Latitudes for dinner (Located on Sunset Key - take the ferry out of the Hilton Marina)

Sloppy Joe's, Hog's Breath (great bars!)

Blue Heaven for breakfast (fun place with awesome blueberry pancakes - only go if you can handle the roosters running around)

Southernmost Point (fun place to walk to!)

Truman Complex (beautiful houses - it makes you feel like you've stepped back in time!)

FM me if you have any questions... I could go on and on!!!

Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it! Keep it coming!

Someone told me that management properties (cottages) were a better way to go than hotels since the hotels were further from it all. Do you agree?

If you're going to stay somewhere in Key West I highly recommend the Hilton. Most of the hotels are far away from the nightlife, restaurants, and attractions. I've stayed here three times and everything is in quick walking distance.

Also, don't forget to check out the sunset celebration in Mallory Square! I can't believe I forgot about that!

I heard the hotels are far, that is why I was told the management properties. They look nice but may be more money than a hotel. I will look into the Hilton. Thanks.

Seems like you really know your stuff about Key West! I am really excited to go. I may bother you over the next 2 months before we go if I have more questions. Hope you don't mind!

Have you flown into Key West or to Miami and drove into Key West? DH wants to fly there to not have to worry about a car but I am so scared of the small plane

Also, is 4 nights long enough to be able to get it all done?

No worries, I love talking about Key West!

I've actually done both - drive and fly into Key West. The small plane is a little bit scary but I've survived both times!!! The water looks really cool from the air! In all honesty, this summer we drove from Ft. Lauderdale to Key West and would probably not do it again. FH and I were excited to see the Keys, cross the 7 mile bridge... It wasn't all that exciting! Kinda blah. The best part was having a brand new Mustang Convertible, lol!!! The only good thing about having a car is that cabs in KW are VERY expensive. A short trip will cost a pretty penny! 4 nights is perfect! It can be a crazy place - my last trip was from a Monday to Friday and we were ready to go home by Friday.

Feel free to FM me anytime! Glad to help! My brother worked as a chef at the Hilton so I know a lot!
