Re: REPOST FROM 06: HELP!!! Dieting, exercising......

From personal expericience i know that if you start intense strength training you are bound to build muscle and actually gain water weight initially. If you're losing inches, that is what matters. So long as your building muscle, the weight loss or inches lost will follow. Just stay with it, and try to avoid carbs and salt since they make you retain water. if you're a bloater, you may benefit from diuretic.
i hope that helps.

For me, combining exercise and some sort of low carb diet (I do Atkins) works wonders !!!

Also, if you're only excercising 2x a week, I would add cardio daily even if it just a brisk 30 min walk daily. that will help.

Re: REPOST FROM 06: HELP!!! Dieting, exercising......

You should incorporate weight lifting about 2-3 times a week. Weight lifting is very good for your muscles, and your body continues to burn fat for like double the time it would if you do just cardio. (I read this somewhere.)

You should also do cardio 3-5 times a week along with the cardio. Make sure you are also drinking 8 glasses of water a day, no soda. The water does help. It also gives you a great complexion. Make sure to ramp up to higher levels of this exercising, you don't want to overdo it too fast, especially after surgery.

You have to consider how you look and feel, not just the weight. 1 lb of fat=1 lb of muscle. They weigh the same, but look very different.

I agree! Don't depend on the LB loss! If you do you will go crazy. Your def gaining muscle which will help burn fat and boosts your metabolism...and if your loosing inches that is great! How do you clothes feel? R they looser? That is how i measure weight loss, not by the scale! Maybe increase your workouts to three times a week and do a lot of strectching (which will help elongate your muscles) and I would do 30 minutes of cardio in between workouts! HTH

Re: REPOST FROM 06: HELP!!! Dieting, exercising......

I just started at a new place that is DRASTICALLY different than the old place I used to personal train. They keep my heart rate up the ENTIRE time we train, which is KEY because it's cardio along with muscle training. THEN I do 30 minutes of cardio on top of it, which they say is when the body REALLY burns the fat. On my 'off' days, I'm planning on doing just cardio at their gym, which is located in Woodbury. I REALLY like the trainer I use. He's young, and we have fun during the workout doing everything from pushups to jumping jacks to situps to a boxing workout to squats to bicep curls... just an AWESOME workout. The place I USED to go was just a guy holding a clipboard leading me from boring machine to machine changing my weights for me and adjusting the seat height and I did the same workout every time. This place, called 'Fitness Together' in Woodbury, REALLY changes it up. AWESOME place.

You also have FM.

If anyone else wants info on this place, FM me!

I work out with the trainer 2x a week. I am there working out without him 3-4 other days. Lots of cardio doing elliptical, etc.

I already am going crazy. My clothes feel loser but not by much. My rear looks better

I do Pilates once a week also, which I love. I work out for an hour 5 days a week, two of those days are with him. I try to give myself one to two days off because I have to remind myself that I have had back surgery that is trying to heal itself . Thanks for your help! Keep any info coming!

PILATES! I can't believe the difference it's made in my body....not with pounds, but my shape has changed and my tummy is much flatter. I wish I started before the wedding, but oh well.

I work out with a great Pilates instructor on the Reformer and the chair. She's in Bayport (South Shore, Suffolk County). FM me if you want her info.

I've become a HUGE fan in spinning. I could tell a difference in just a few weeks. It's not only a good workout, but it's so good for getting all your aggression out and clearing out the clutter. Even FH has seen a HUGE difference in me and my attitude (and body )

I'm addicted.

Don't you love it? My friend is an instructor so thankfully I get to do all that stuff for free! Good thing because that's expensive!!!

Then I would DEFINITELY try Pilates or Yoga. It will strengthen your core immensly, which will in turn help out your back ailment When you have a strong core, it will aleviate (sp?) the pressure in other parts of your body.

Good luck!!

Re: REPOST FROM 06: HELP!!! Dieting, exercising......

with weights, dont count your weight, count your inches! Muscle weighs more than fat.. so if you are putting on muscle it will...
one weight more than fat but you will look and be smaller, and 2 the muscle you put on helps burn the fat you do have... I think i read you lost 3'.. that is great! same for me, for a while i wasnt loosing weight but i would loose some in measurments, then recently weight just suddenly dropped about 6 lbs after 3/4 months but i look the same...

Keep it up, dont go nuts either... it is not a fast process!

I've been dieting for a little over a month now and only lost 2 lbs. I am exercising and I changed my eating habits and I only lost 2 stinking pounds!!!!
I did loose 2 inches off my waist and 1 inch off my back. But I still feel like I'm stuck! Just keep working hard at it I know how frustrating it can be!!!
XOXOXOXO
