picking out a dress for my MOH who is a size 24 (currently). She just joined a gym but I am not going to pretend that she is going to be a size whatever come July 1st. I have no idea what style will look good on her since she can't try on most dresses. Anyone have pictures of a plus sized bridesmaid that they can share?

I'm sorry, I don't have any pics for you - but have you asked her what she'd be comfortable in? I would think an A-line would be the most flattering for most people.

Or you could visit a shop that has plus size occassion gowns with her?

If she's at a gym, I'd wait until Jan or Feb to make a decision. I ordered my BM dresses 6 mos ahead and that was still pretty early. You have plenty of time and to keep 'searching' with her in on it... it might make her feel badly.

If you're insistant that this be done immediately, there's a plus sized bridal shop in Lynbrook on Sunrise highway. You should call, I'd assume they have some BM dresses there as well for your MOH to try on.

I agree about waiting until then to order.... but I need to at least get an idea of what I want to order. I have to pick out colors still and the dress revolves around that. I can't wait until then to pick out colors or my mom will strangle me LOLOL. Thanks for the info on the store though... any idea of the name?

How about you pick out the color and let her pick the style? She sounds willing to 'please' and shape up (which IMO is unecessary since you picked her for her), so I would go with a designer that has nice separates (a la Jim Hjelm) or varied styles of dresses and let her pick the one that is most flattering for her body type in the same color as the other girls. You do want her to be comfortable and happy...speak to suven about what an unhappy BM can do.

I probably will ultimately let them pick out what they are going to wear... I just want to be able to give a little push for something that will look good on them. My MOH is my sister who is 42. She lives in maryland. Her idea of dressing up is not as perky as it once was. So I feel antsy that she'll just pick anything. That is leaving me to inquire about pictures of past bridesmaids. But I would NEVER push anything on them since I've been a bridesmaid before as well

i agree that a separate is the best way to go. Pick an a-line skirt (that is flattering on everyone) and let them pick a top. Davids has separates. You pick a color and they pick the dress style.

As a plus size girl, I can tell you that an A -line dress works best. Also, one that the material bunches to one side of her waist will make her look slimmer. If you can pick a darker color, that will slim also. But you should ask her what she would like to wear. Maybe she knows what style works best for her body.

why dont you take your girls shopping and let them pick out some dresses they would like and feel comfortable in

I let my girls pick out whatever dress they wanted just I picked the color!

I'm a plus size and I usually look best in an a-line cut. You should check out Commack Wedding Center- they had plus size dresses to try on for wedding gowns and I think they have bridesmaid too.

Alfred Angelo has dresses in all sizes. Having been a 24 myself for years, I know it isnt easy. BUT A-line tends to be most flattering - espcially if there is no seam running across the middle. I wouldnt mention losing weight or dieting to her - even if she is trying. Encourage, but never push. It does not work.

My bridal party ranges in size from the 'negatives' (smallest size able to be ordred AND taken in) all the way up to a 16 (who had to order a size 20 because of how BP dresses run). I had them all choose their own dresses and they are all happy.
