My FMIL bought engagement announcements and plans on sending them out to people this weekend. Here's my concern, she plans to send some to people who are not on the wedding invite list.
I personally would be offended if I received an announcement then wasn't invited to the wedding.

People say that you can send announcements to people you're not inviting to the wedding, but I tend to agree with you! Why send an announcement to me if I'm not going to be invited to your wedding? JMO!

I feel like engagement announcements should serve the same purpose as STDs... just to the people you'd invite.
If someone isn't close enough to you guys to be invited to the wedding, then they can hear about your engagement from 'the grapevine'?

as another poster stated it is said you can send out e-annoucements to ppl that are not invited to the wedding but i personally wouldn't do it

Hey Ang, you know how I feel. Don't send them to those not invited. I would be offended. It's putting out the message that your not good enough to go to the wedding but you are good enough to buy engagement gift.

I agree with you! Question: Is it clear to FMIL that those people are not on the invite list? Is it possible she's hoping to be able to invite them? (Just something to be on the lookout for!)

personally, i wouldn't send them to people who aren't invited to the wedding. if i got an announcement, i'd be awaiting an invitation and would be a bit offended if i didn't get one. when we sent out announcements, we didn't have a date yet, so it didn't serve as a STD, but we still had 'details and invitation to follow' or something to that effect at the bottom of the announcement and we only sent them to those we KNEW would be invited.

I talked to her about the list and she knows who's on it. She is under the impression that it is acceptable to send to anyone... I think the FI and I need to sit her down together.

i would wonder after receiving the e-announcement when the wedding invite was coming.
maybe you, your fh, and fmil should sit down together and go over the list. thats what i had to do because my fmil had people neither one of us knew and after she told us who they were she took them off the list.

I wouldn't want them sent to people who are not invited to the wedding, I would feel awkward about that. I agree with the way you feel.
