Repost from '09:Good Restaurants in Queens or Long Island

Hi ladies...I need your help. Since I don't get out much and my plans for this weekend got totally screwed, DH wants to take me out for a nice dinner. Can any of you recommend a nice restaurant in Queens or Long Island. If it's Queens, I would prefer maybe the Forest Hills area. Anywhere in Long Island is fine. We're willing to go as far out as Copiague or a tad bit further if it's worth it. Any type of cuisine will do. We eat pretty much anything Although we haven't done Indian or Greek yet.

Any help would be great. Also can you please indicate if reservations are needed.

Thanks

I know its not in Queens but it is really close to the border, but for amazing view and the price is not that expensive I would say Giando's.

If you want forest hills then I recommend Cabana, its cuban food and so delicious, great atmosphere too. The only thing is that they don't take reservations and gets packed there. You can wait at the bar but that part gets crowded too. I just recommend you dont go when youre really hungry and go a bit before so this way if you wait its not that bad lol.

Others in Queens, i have quite a few for Astoria and i think astoria does have the most restaurants in queens.

L'incontro-AMAZING italian food, definitely have to try but only thing is you need reservations and can be hard to get one sometimes but worth a try.

718-LOVE this place, its french and spanish fusion and food is delicious. Its very trendy and modern, the place is dimly lit with candles and decor is nice. Very cozy and romantic feeling to it too.

Taverna Kyclades- you mentioned greek and this is more of a greek seafood place, food is DELICIOUS. Not fancy more of a laid back place. However this place gets so packed and can be a line to get in. But once you have the food you'll see why

If you like sushi then I recommend Watawa

simply fondue-its a fondue restaurant in atlas park which is right by forest park in queens. The decor is cool here and the fondue is amazing

Riverview in LIC, queens( i know theres one in LI too but this one is different) its right on the water right across the street from gantry park so you have an amazing view of the ny skyline. The food is delicious too, theres outside seating but kinda windy too but inside is real nice and romantic

These are all on long island, here's some of my favorite places; Four Food Studio (can be a little loud though), Cirellas on 110, Maxwell and Dunne's in plainview (steakhouse), Nico in islip, Tellers-also in islip(very swanky and worth the money), Honu in Huntington ( I really like this one. HTH

lucky friend she probably gets to eat there for free lol. The owner is always there and so nice, he'll come around to tables too which i think is great to see. Great place for brunch too, especially when it's nice out and they have outside seating

I could recommend sooo many but I will limit to some of my favorites and try to give you different cuisines...

Queens Village, Queens- Cara *** (Italian)-
My fav Italian restaurant! just a homey, sweet type of restaurant but good for a nice dinner- fh proposed here since we had a first date here, in 'our booth' ok im done, lol. Reservations are not taken for small parties

Roslyn, Nassau county- Jolly Fisherman (fish and steak house)
Upscale, business casual dress. must make a reservation
This is a restaurant thats been around forever and has a much older crowd (could even say elderly, at some points, lol...I always went here with my grandparents) but I continue to go and I think its wonderful fresh fish and great service with old school wait staff. If you dont mind somewhat snobby people at times, youll get a great meal but pay for it. Its on a lake btw.

Tellers (Steak house, Im sure good fish too)
Business casual dress, make a reservation
I think its in islip but could be wrong.
Great food and really pretty, used to be a bank, has floor to ceiling windows.

In Nassau, one of my fav restaurants is Waterzooi in Garden City -- the mussels are awesome. In RVC we like Aqua, a trendy-ish seafood restaurant. In Suffolk, my favs are H20 for seafood (Smithtown), Kotobuki for sushi (both in Hauppague and Babylon -- Babylon is a little better), 21 Main in Sayville, Osteria Toscana in Huntington for Italian, Prime in Huntington for steak ($$$ but really good).... one of my all-time favorites is the Mill Pond Inn in Centerport, they are the same owner as Piccolo in Huntington (also great). Besito in Huntington is dependable for Mexican. If you like French cuisine, Bistro Cassis (also in Huntington) is incredible. They don't take reservations and the bar area is small but it's sooooo worth the wait!

If you like Seafood check out The Fishery in East Rockaway. I'm an avid seafood eater, and their seafood is absolutely phenomenal. It's waterfront dining, although I don't know if the outdoor section is open yet.

Also, the restaurant in the Garden City Hotel is excellent, as is the Seventh Street Cafe in Garden City.

If you're looking in the Forest Hills area, I HIGHLY suggest the following restaurants. All located on Austin Street

1. Mardi Gras
2. Cabanas
3. Moca (right next door to Cabanas)

They all serve such great food and drinks and the ambiance is just as great. If you do Cabana's try the Passion fruit mojito. If you go to Mardi Gras, try the Mango Daquiri, and if u do Moca, try everything!!

Five Boroughs and Garcia's are really good for Mexican food in Forest Hills. There are some great Thai places in the area as well- Bann Thai and Bangkok Cuisine. Also, Thai Pot on 67 Ave. I've been to these restaurants and they all happen to be a personal favorite of mine!
