I found my wedding dress last week. However, the salon no longer works with this designer so I would have to take the sample. They will be giving me 40% off. I'm trying to call a few other salons that carry this designer to see how much they sell this particular dress for. It has a few stains on it and needs some work (not obvious to me except for the stains). They said it would be fine they can get the stains out and fix any of the beading that needs fixing. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

who makes the dress - how much is the original and the sample?
I would say a stained sample should be AT LEAST 50 percent off.
I don't think you are getting ripped off, but I do think you can talk them down ALOT.
I was looking at a slightly stained Amsale in need of work and it was 50% off to start with, and then the moment I hesitated re: the stains, the woman took another 800 off - it would have been about a 70% savings. but in the end, to me, it was not worth 1200 for a stained dress...
Good luck!

Thanks for the help everyone! I tried a few online sources and they don't carry the designer and I found a couple of local salons that no longer carry the designer b/c of delivery difficulties. I think I'm going to try and bargain it down a little more. I may go for it if they stipulate that if the stain and any damage can not be repaired then I will get my money back and that they must do it in a cartain amount of time so I have time to get a new dress if necessary. I hope they'll go for that! Thanks again for the advice!

NPBride....Who is the designer, what type of material, what store are you dealing with? You have to be very careful...I went/am going through something exactly like this and it has only now turned very positive but the store and everything else was just terrible..The reason why I ask the above questions is for example if the dress is silk then yes a store CAN get the stain out abut at what cost? Sometimes the place where the original stain was gets lighter or worse and THAT is not covered in the contract, only the fact that the original stain came out is what matters....here is a link to my experience so you can see what I ran into...
Re: Repost from BHB: Am I being ripped off? re:dress
I think you should probably be able to talk them down more than 40% if it's truly discontinued. My dress was a discontinued style from Watters - I got it at 75% off the original price.
I thought this was an amazing deal, but when I watched the Apprentice episode where they had to set up a bridal salon, one of the bridal store owners made a comment that they just want to get rid of discontinued dresses - at any cost. So, you should have some bargaining power with the salon.
Also, keep in mind, that dry cleaning the sample can cost in the range of $300 so add that to the price of your dress when figuring your budget.

OMG! That is an absolutely horrible experience! I'm glad things turned around so that you were able to redesign the back but what an ordeal! So sorry you had to deal with that. Some of these shops are just terrible.....
The designer of the dress is Rena Koh, I think it is silk but I'll have to double check, and it's Lillette's in Baldwin. I'll have to inquire about the stain getting lighter. Thanks for the tips and again sorry about your horrible experience!

Thank you very much....Actually the whole experience turned out terrific thanks only to an amazing designer and an even more amazing seamstress but yeah it was a terrible position to be put in. I am just glad that if anything someone else never has to go through what I did and can learn from it. Good luck and make sure you read the final print...also try calling the designer personally and see what she thinks....You'd be surprised....most actually answer the phone and are extremely personable. I spoke to Melissa Sweet and my designer...They made the whole experience better. The number for Rena Koh is (561) 470-8894 .
