Repost from BHB: Do you think this is a good idea?
When I send out my STDs in May, I was thinking I might send them along with a little note saying we plan to block of rooms at a hotel and if anyone already knows they are interested in staying to let us know ahead of time so we can get an accurate count of how many rooms we will need.
Do you think this is a good idea? Has anyone else done this?

This is exactly what I plan on doing! Since we will have many OOTers, we plan on setting up a block right before we send out the STDs so that we can include the information in the STDs. It'll be about 11months in advance so they'll have no excuse to not plan their trip to NY in advance at least, that's the plan...

I believe you can set up a block up to a year in advance!

cool. I know alot of my guests are going to want rooms because they are going to be drinking and are not going to be driving home. The hotel also offers shuttle service to and from the RH.

I was thinking of doing the same thing because it would be nice to have a rough idea of how many rooms I am going to need to block out.

I think that is definitely a good idea. Just keep in mind though that some people may not get back to you about wanting a room and then decide to book one later on. So the amount that you hear back from may not be all the rooms that you need..you may need a few more.

Most places you can block at any time..I already have my room block set up for about 2-3 months already
Oh and yes I think it's a good idea to send it with the STD's this way people know and can plan much better than only a few weeks before

i plan i blocking off b4 i sent std so i can include the information with them as well.....
i think its the best way to do it!!! plus less stuff with the invite means less postage!
