Yesterday was my first time looking and trying on wedding dresses. We went to the Bridal Suite in Bay Shore and I found a dress I liked and tried it on. The woman that was helping me told me if I decided to order the dress they would have to order the dress in a size 8. That is fine but the only problem is that I am not even 5ft tall and weigh less then 100 pounds. I just could not understand why she was insisting I get the gown in a size 8. Normally I would be a size 2.
Has anybody ever had experience with a situation like this? I don’t know if I should just try going to a different Bridal Suite that carry that dress and see what they say.

I know that bridal salons will order dresses in a larger size so that the dress can be tailored to your body. But this sounds like it will be really big. I haven't ordered my dress yet, so I cannot speak from experience, but maybe you should check the designer's website and see their sizing chart.

what size was the dress that you tried on?? I know in my case, they ordered me the next size dress bc I tried on the size 10 & it was a little snug...They told me that the next size would only give me 1 inch but that would be plenty! Needless to say, I have lost 10lbs since I ordered the dress!

The dress I tried on was a size 12. And the woman told me that they would oreder two sizes smaller. The dress was huge on me. I belive the dress comes in a size 2.

That is really weird...I would try to find another salon that carries that dress & try it on there & see what they say...I just hope that the bridal salon you went to wasn't trying to get you to order a bigger dress so they could charge you $$ for alterations! I have heard that one before

They also say that wedding dress sizes do not run true to form. I normally wear a 3/4 but in wedding dress size it's closer to 6/8.

They don't run true to size at all...I normally wear a 5/6 but I tried on a size 10...They order them big...I think to make money on the alterations...but thats jmo
