Repost from BHB: What would you do?

My best friend and I have the same crystal. And this past Christmas her mom completed her set from Macy's since she got married a few years ago. When the glasses were shipped to her 1/2 of them arrived broken. She called Macy's and they just sent her new glasses but didn't want the broken ones back. So she saved the broken ones in there boxes knowing I have the same pattern, thinking maybe I could do something with them --- maybe try and exchange them to a store that carries them.

The question is: should I try to take them to a store and return them saying they were broken in transit?

I'm registered for them at Fortunoff's -- but I know BBB and Macy's carries them. But there are always people that look up your registry and buy some items at a local store instead. A few guests did this for our e-party

Any suggestions from all of the resourceful brides on here?

absolutely! Tell them you recieved them as a gift and they broke during transit like you said. Thats pretty much all you have to say and there should be no problem of them exchanging them for new ones.

only thing is I won't have a receipt. you think that's a big deal?

anyone have expereince doing a return like this at BBB or Macy's? I'm not gonna try Fortunoff's since they can see they weren't purchased off the registry

They accept exchanges so you wont be able to give you money back they will give you a gift card or an exchange

The Macys in NY is different than the Macys where i live in california. Here you can bring back anything w/o a reciept or box that youve had laying around your house for 3 years i swear its almost ridiculous. My sister however had a hard time bringing something back to macys in brooklyn b/c she didnt have the reciept and they only gave her 30% of its value which stinks. It doesnt hurt to try i guess.

thanks ladies for all your input on the crystal dilemma. I'm thinking I could even try BBB/Macy's and make up a story -- saying the glasses were a gift shipped to me, but the individual no longer had the receipt' since I just want an exchange. they'll just send the broken ones back to Waterford anyway. right? I hope it works! I would love to have more of my crystal!!
