REPOST FROM NWR: Question about Christenings

I am Christening my nephew in a few weeks.
I have offered to buy the outfit for him to wear that day.

What did you buy your godchild for their Christening?

I need ideas! TIA

Well I have 2 Godsons and I would have bought the outfits but both already had them, wearing the same as parents,
one actually was my christianing gown this jack is my sisters son.

So I bought both a white gold cross and chain and gave them money,
and some extras clothes etc.

I figured the cross they can have forever,
I am not a big one on man and jewelry or children and jewelry, but to me it is more symbolic.

My Godson & son both wore the same gown that we wore.

You can look w/ the Mom & ask her opinions.
People have different tastes. What some find to be nice others might not.

Funny you should say that actually When I offerd to BUY the outfit for him, she was very very thankful and then very seriously she said 'Are you going to get a 'dress' though?' And I looked at her and I said NO SILLY, you pick it, I buy it, it'll be a nice silk or linen 'suit' or something, we'll go shopping together, he doesn't have to wear a Chritening dress!
So she was relieved.

When my friend asked me to be Godparent. She did say that if she has a boy she didn't want a gown either. She didn't know how her family would take it. WHATEVER!!
My son wore a gown. It's been in my family for 45 years!

Luckily she had a girl so I got to buy a gown anyway!!

I think the gown is nice, especially if it's been in the family and everyone has been Christened in it (mother, grandmother, etc ...). My friend has that in her family and it's such a great family tradition.
Unfortunately we don't have that so she wasn't sure what 'I' would buy, meanwhile I offered because I wanted her to pick it out and I'd buy it.

They have some beautiful Irish Linen gowns out there I would have loved to buy,
I am a gown person for boy or girl,
dont really care for the little white suits.

best of luck shopping

Thanks for the ideas for GIFTS - maybe a cross or a savings bond will do!
