Repost from Pet Board-- Mouse in my house!!

I saw a mouse in my house on Friday night in my basement. I've only been physically living here in Monroe for a month and now I'm scared to death for my dog!! Does anyone know if my yorkie will either try to eat it or if the mouse will will try to bite him? Can Bruno get a disease from it? Sorry if these are irrational questions but I'm scared for him and I've never had a mouse in a house before. I blocked both entrances to the basement from the main floor and put down glue traps -- any other advice?

Truly the best mouse trap there is!! We tried the glue strips for a few days...nothing!

We put this box down, 6 minutes later....mouse caught!!

Does your dog like to hunt in general? Mine does, and sure enough he left parts of a mouse for me one day. He was very proud of his catch.

I wouldn't use poison b/c if your dog does eat the mouse, then your dog eats the poison too.

Chances are since you are in Monroe, it is a field mouse (or a vole). They generally stay out of living spaces like your kitchen as they are not really interested in food.

I live right near you and we've had them in the basement too. But haven't seen them in about a year. But even when I did, they didn't tear into any food. Glue traps have worked for me, you need to put them next to the boiler since they are mostly there to get out of the cold and near the heat. Also along the wall, they like to run along there. But even though these mice are tiny you need to get the big boards, made for rats and snakes. They have them at Walmart in Monroe in the dishsoap area.

If you absolutely need to get rid of them, an exterminator can use something that won't harm your dog.
