do you think it's better to use a few votive candles or 1 single pillar candle in a hurricane lamp? we're going to out an 8x10 picture of FH's dad with candles.

I recently lost my Dad this past July, I plan on having an 8x10 in the bridal room. My mother asked me to be discreet and I will honor that request. I think votives are nice and if I thought I could handle it, I would choose that for myself. IMO, votives give off a more soft feeling.

I think the votives would look nicer.

I think the votives will give a warmer, more glowy (if thats a word) feeling.

I like the symbolism of a single candle.....

I can post a picture of this tonight but what I did was on either side of the ball room there was a long table against the wall with a mirror behind it. The HWC usually had a centerpiece on the table but I asked them to clear that off so I could use them as our memorial tables. My DH side had his family and mine had my families.

I wanted to include certain family members in our mass but kinda in the background, so I had 2 vases of red roses used on either side of the the altar and 2 memorial candles place in front of each of them - my DH father and grandparents on one side and both sets of my grandparents on the other. The vases were taken to the hall and used on each table with the memorial candles placed with the wedding pictures of our parents and grandparents (I also made candles for other family members who were important to my parents and some of the widows were taken back by it, they love it because we remembered them). I used antique frames since the pictures were black and white which gave it a warm feeling. The candles were lit before everyone came into the hall and it had such a glow to it. It actually took my breath away when I saw my table with my grandparents photos and my parents wedding photo int he center with the candles staggered inbetween.... for me it reinforced the feeling that they were there with me. At the end of the reception DH mother was given the roses from his table and my mom should have gotten our vase to take to the cemetery (I wanted it place on my grandma's site - I missed her so much that day) but someone on my DH side took it without asking (lets just say she is not getting a thank you!) Each candle was given to a family member to take home, for example my great aunt took her husbands, my dads parents by his brother, my great grandparents by another aunt............ it held a lot of meaning for all of us. I actually found my FIL's candle in my MIL kitchen (spends alot of time in there) which surprised me.

Sorry to ramble but its an idea to toy with....
