DH & I were invited to a wedding that we can not attend, however, this couple attended our wedding this past summer and gave us $300 as a gift. They are friends of ours but not close we don't really hang out with them.
Unfortunately, DH & I can not attend their wedding this summer. Do we have to give them the same amount or since we will be RSVP 'NO' and they won't have to pay for our seats, do we give less?
What would you give: $300 a lesser amount a really nice gift off their registry
THANKS!

Re: REPOST - need wedding gift advice...
When I give a gift I give on relationship not 'seat' value... If it were me, I would give back the same. DH and I went to a wedding for his cousin and gave $300, they couldn't come to ours and gave $100, I was pretty insulted JMO

I agree! We had the same situation with one of DH's friends and he was insulted as well.

I'm going to be odd man out - I wouldn't give $100, but I wouldn't give $300, but something in the middle.
ETA: I sent $100 to my Boss' daughter's bat mitzah we're missing (I know I spelled it wrong) and he had given us much more than that for our wedding.

I wouldn't give the full amount, I'd give something less. I wouldn't do a present off the registry but maybe 200 bucks?

Re: REPOST - need wedding gift advice...
I would not give the same but I would not give $100. I would do a little more then half & come to an agreeance with $200-$225! I just think that even though you are not there & they are not paying for your seat, it is just the 'right' thing to do

I agree with this. If you aren't that close with them I wouldn't give $300 since you're not attending their wedding. I think something in the $200 range should be more than enough, they shouldn't even be expecting a gift from you and should appreciate anything you give.

Re: REPOST - need wedding gift advice...
I say give what you can afford. If you can match them go ahead. If not, give what you can.
If you're looking for a specific dollar amount I suppose $200 is about right.
If you don't want to give a cash gift you could give them a GC to one of their favorite restaurants. We got that from someone who wasn't invited to our wedding but does business with my DH and we loved it! We just bought a house and this place tends to be expensive so it was really a great gift that we most definitely appreciated.
