Repost: OMG this is scary!

OMG I just went to pick up my car from being serviced and went to pay with my credit card and realized I couldn't find it. I must have put it in my jacket pocket when I got gas and it fell out. By the time I got home to call Bank of America, they had already e-mailed me that they put a hold on my card because they thought it was fraud. There was a whole bunch of charges in the last hour. This makes me so stressed but at the same time I am so happy with how Bank of America handled it. Their customer service has always been great but the way they dealt with this situation makes me feel like my money is really safe.

Girls be careful with your cards! People are desperate right now and I was really lucky.

OMG, that's HORRIBLE that somebody was trying to use it. I hate that. There's no excuse for that kind of thing. If ya find cash, then fine. But a credit card actually has somebody's NAME on it. It's not like you can't find the owner and return it! I know the world is full of jerks, but it still surprises me every time.

Glad the bank recognized this and stopped your card. Did you lose any money in the process?? Or was it restored?

Sorry to hear that happened to you. That is so great that your bank took immediate action so that you are not responsible for any of those charges.
People are horrible Within an hour!! That is nuts.

When I called BOA they listed all the charges made in the past few days and so I had the gas transaction but there were like 3 more that were made. They said I will not be responsible for any of the fraudulent charges-I have to sign an affidavit and ****. I hope it won't affect my credit. The thing that is weird though is I don't understand how they picked it up so quickly. The amounts weren't crazy-first one was at a liquor store for like $150 and then Taco Bell for $18 and I'm not sure the others. I mean if I go to the mall I can rack up a few hundred dollars in an hour or so. So something must have been suspicious.

that IS really weird that they would recognize anything odd from that. It actually makes me nervous kind of. I use BOA and I would hope that they don't try to put a hold on MY card when I go on my roadtrip with the husband-to-be in a couple weeks. lol. We'll be using my card for hotel rooms across the country. Imagine they got suspicious and stopped me from using it? I'd kill 'em!

I wonder though if like the third or fourth attempted transaction was REALLY crazy. Maybe he tried to spend more than you had available and it got denied - that's what coulda got 'em wondering. Ya think?? I just don't think they'd pick up anything from the charges you mentioned. That's too strange.

Right I mean I thought maybe the area they were in was a red flag-but I work in Queens so it's not unusual for me to use my debit card or credit card anywhere on the island when I'm on my way home from work lol. I haven't really been using the card because I haven't needed to except for some Christmas stuff I didn't want DH to see. I am wondering maybe they went and used it online for some crazy purchase-I feel like it was a few guys because it was a liquor store and taco bell. I wished it was like for a toy store for someone to get their kids' Christmas presents you know? I'm just glad it was caught so early. Maybe call up BOA and let them know that you will be traveling and to give them a heads up.

well, it's interesting because ever since I opened my account at BOA, I've ONLY used it in New York (whether it be the Island or the City). And then once I began dating FH, I started visiting Colorado and using it a lot over there. I'm surprised they were not suspicious of this, considering that for YEARS it had only been NY and then all of a sudden I'm across the country. lol. So I guess if they weren't suspicious of that, then they won't be now. Strange.
