Did you guys read the article this morning about how some protestors may try to disrupt the commuter trains? I'm dreading coming in to Penn that week. Maybe I'll go to Flatbush instead.

thank god for express buses
Traffic should be fun (they are closing 1/2 of midtown streets)

I work near Wash Square Park, so I think I'll go to Flatbush. I may try to take off a few days too.

I'm not looking forward to it either since I work down by Union Square. Since I'd have to transfer at Jamaica anyway to get to Hunterspoint Ave., I might just take the subway from Jamaica.
I'm also tossing around a few vacation days as well.

I will be taking NJ Transit RR by then and I am planning on taking it to Newark and then picking up the PATH there and taking it to 23rd, then walking up to 34th where I work! What a pain. My boss said if it becomes too much or we get nervous to work from home.

This stinks. Folks like the ones described above really give protestors and protests a bad name. The tolerance for protest in this country (a nation FOUNDED on protest, ironically) is already low enough. And peaceful protestors' rights have been curtailed a great deal over the past few years. I get SO angry when people make already problematic situations worse with their rotten behavior.
I couldn't agree more! I'm all for protests but not for possibly hurting people or causing major disruption. AND I'm basically on their side (meaning anti-Bush) and they are going to make the anti-Bushers look bad!

I work on 34th St, and our company is actually giving us alternate work locations-not for everyone, but for the commuters ...My boss is involved w/ this big times, meetings and meetings b/c of this convention. I will work on LI that week, thank god, taking the LIRR can be tough on normal days, let alone this upcoming convention. I think they should have held this at JJCC..what were they thinking?

You might also want to consider going into Hunterspoint Avenue and transfering to the 7. I used to travel that way into the city when I worked there, and its LIRR's best kept secret!
That's going to be my commute!! I had to go to Grand Central all last summr and then I found out about the Hunterspoint Avenue stop--only 2 stops on the 7 and I was at work. Too bad that working my 'lawyer' hours, I probably can't get that train home. I wish it ran later than 6:44
