Did you guys read the article this morning about how some protestors may try to disrupt the commuter trains? I'm dreading coming in to Penn that week. Maybe I'll go to Flatbush instead.

I am off that whole week - if I couldnt take off I would go through Flatbush.
I tend to be a neurotic - but it is worth waking up and extra 1/2 hour early to save the aggrevation.
May LIW can make a flatbush ave. buddy system for that week so no one has to go alone????

Re: Republican Nat'l Convention: LIRR commuters
why not take the LIRR into Jamacia or Forest Hills and then take the subway?
Jamacia: E train Forest Hills: E, F, R, V Train
I think the distruption will be less on the subways than on the LIRR. Especially since Penn will only have 2 tracks running into & out of Penn (can you say delays???) and the subways mentioned above all got through 51st or 63 street tunnels (which is away from Penn station) - less likely to be affected. At least that is what I am hoping.

You might also want to consider going into Hunterspoint Avenue and transfering to the 7. I used to travel that way into the city when I worked there, and its LIRR's best kept secret!

Very good idea!

Clueless, where do you work in the city?
If you are above 42nd, I'd do the Jamacia or Forest Hills things
If you are anywhere from 20's-40's I'd do the Hunters Point
If you are downtown, the Flatbush subway line may be your best bet.
Any way to steer clear of 34th street (and the surrounding area) would be good at this point!

This is not a bunch of people standing on a corner with signs, these are people being instructed on how to undermine the security systems being put in place. So while they may not be an immediate danger, they will re-direct police attention away from real potentially dangerous situations.
The protesters are being told how to appear to have a bomb by going to firing ranges to get that gun powder scent the bomb search dogs respond to. The emergency and security personnel will be forced to search the trains just in case. THis will result in massive train delays and compromise security in other areas that may really need it.

Sad isn't it?
I also think it's irresponsible journalism to print these things in the paper. So now the idiots that couldn't think of this on their own know how to do things like this.

Vacation would be good, or walk to your job from one of the farther away train stations. They are only going to have the 7th ave entrace open to penn, you know how crowded it would be.

It's either that or I'll commute through woodside - I am on the Port Washington branch of the LIRR so Jamaica isn't an option.

Week leading into Labor day ... Aug 30 - Sept 3
Penn is going to be a mess! Between Amtrack, LIRR and all the subways with only one way in & out ... yikes

Re: Republican Nat'l Convention: LIRR commuters
This stinks. Folks like the ones described above really give protestors and protests a bad name. The tolerance for protest in this country (a nation FOUNDED on protest, ironically) is already low enough. And peaceful protestors' rights have been curtailed a great deal over the past few years. I get SO angry when people make already problematic situations worse with their rotten behavior.
