Requesting WAY TOO MUCH INFO (enter at your own risk)

Original post by rojerono

I am suddenly fascinated by this topic BECAUSE... a colleague of mine (in her 30s) just confessed to me that she cannot figure out how to use tampons. I honestly and sincerely believed that every woman over the age of 18 used them. It never occurred to me that people might not know HOW.

So... do you? Use them? If not... is it because they are uncomfortable or because you can't figure out how they work or is it because of health concerns? I am really pretty curious. And I am sick and unable to do much of anything so I have a lot of weird thoughts on my mind these days.

I learned how to use a tampon when I was 13 when I got my period. Then I learned shortly after that I couldn't use tampons because I have a tilted uterus and if I used them basically my period stops and starts again and my gyno was afraid I'd get toxic shock thing. So I just use diapers, I mean pads.

I have a very tilted uterus (way tilted to my back) and have never had that problem nor has any gyn (and I've had many) told me that. That's so weird.

i was always pretty naive-- i thought, when i first got my period, that i had gotten stabbed or something-- i was like OMG my organs are exploding-- we need to go to the ER!!! i came downstairs screaming and THEN my mom decided to tell me that i had gotten my period... then, the next day, she took me out to lunch with my DAD, BROTHER (who was like 16 at the time, PERFECT!!) and my sister-- who all KNEW exactly why we were going to lunch. To this day, the therapy bills I have incurred from that single experience...

THEN!! To make matters worse-- she also never clued me in to WHAT tampons were or how to use them-- so I was petrified of them and never used them until about 15 years old when I wanted desperately to go in the pool and my mom kept asking why I wouldn't go in and I just told her nevermind until finally I told her it was b/c of the fact that I had no idea how to use one-- so she decided to give me instructions-- there is me, at 15, listening to my mom describe how to seperate 'the other lips' on my body-- OMG can I tell you how effed up I am as a direct result of her raising me?!

It's OK ladies-- laugh it up at my expense, I think it is hysterical as much as it is mortifying.

Good day.

I'm not a big tampon fan. The pads can be a pain sometimes, but I just don't like tampons.

I'm just happy that I find it as hysterical as I do... Honestly, my mom is like a walking sitcom and my entire life I was just waiting for the network to cancel her but unfortunately-- The show still goes on

The Cup

for those of you who didn't know what 'the cup' is:

There are a few different versions. Most prevalent in the USA are the keeper, the divacup, and the instead cup.

The keeper and the divacup are reusable. The instead cup is disposable.

Instead Cup
The instead cup is a flexible, disposable cup that you insert into your vagina, that rests high up, just below the cervix. You can have sex with the instead cup in, as it sits up high enough to be out of the way - I've done it, and it works extremely well

The Keeper and the divacup
The keeper and the divacup are reusable cups. You wash them out between periods and reuse them. The keeper is tested to last for up to ten years, and the divacup I think for 4 or 5 years, but I'm not positive on that one. The main difference between the two is that the keeper is made of rubber and can't be boiled to be disinfected, and the divacup is made of silicon and can be boiled. They sit a little lower than an instead cup, so you can't have sex with them in. (although, actually, I have had sex with mine in - we just didn't go in all the way. What can I say, sometimes you've just got to do what you've got to do!) Every day, you pour it out, rinse it out, and put it back in. On my heavy days I empty it maybe 2-3 times a day, on light days I can usually get away with once, although I tend to just empty it when I shower in the morning and in the toilet before I go to bed, just because that's my preference.

Using a cup completely cuts out your risk of infections like Toxic Shock Syndrone, greatly reduce the waste you add to landfills, and really cut down on how much money you waste on menstrual products in a year. Think about this: you could spend maybe $10 - $20 a month on menstrual products - that's $120 to $240 a year! I buy one keeper for $40 and use it for TEN YEARS! That's $40 vs at least $1200! Even if you aren't the type of person concerned with infection or the environment, I think that kind of difference in expense can make a difference to anybody!

Personally, I use a keeper most of the time, and the occasional instead cup for period sex (fantastic for relief of cramps). I HIGHLY recommend trying out a cup - I believe both the keeper and the divacup have a money back guarantee for the first couple of months (don't worry, they don't send the used ones back out - they melt them down), so you basically only lose out on the cost of shipping.

Do you want to hear the grosses story ever!!!

So my friend went away to college... and she had a roommate that she really didn't talk to that much... They just didn't have much in common. Well... She kept complaining that her roommate smelt like horrible... Just horrible... and won't stop about the complaining... so after living like 3 months with her 1 day she decideded to go and snoop around her stuff to see what the horrible smell was.

LISTEN TO THIS SICKNESS... and if any of you are her old roommate and did this... you are just SICK!

She opened her top drawer and saw USED PADS all lined up in a row... like 20 or so... Lined up like soldiers!!!! Obviously this girl was a psycho, so my friend told the RA and got her dorm room changed.

HOW SICK ARE SOME PEOPLE!
