I need to get my engagement ring re-sized before my wedding, as I have lost some weight. The jewelry store by me said that I would have to leave my ring there for 2 days. I’m worried that by leaving it so long they may potentially swap out my diamond for a cheaper one. Is it standard to leave the ring with the jeweler for resizing?

Re: Resizing ring
I've heard a LOT of jewelers say that, but that's mostly because they send them out to be sized. When DH proposed, my ring was massive. I think he sized it to his finger instead of mine. Anyway, we went to the jeweler and asked them to re-size it. They said 2 weeks. We asked why so long and they told us it's because they send it out to Fast Fix Jewelers, who happen to be right in the Queens Center Mall. We went there and they sized/cleaned it right in front of us and it took 15 minutes tops. Since then I've gone back for a loose stone, several cleanings, resizing of another ring, and to have a watch fixed and I have no complaints. Sooooo, basically what I'm saying is cut out the middle man and go to Fast Fix lol!

It's normal - have the ring insured ahead of time, just in case.

is there a charge if you didn't purchase from there for resizing and cleaning?

Re: Resizing ring
My FH got my ring at Jared and it was too big. We went in and they did it right there for you, was done in about an hour and if you want you can wait and watch right through the glass. I am sure you can get yours done there as well even if it wasn't bought there. Mine also has a number inside the diamond that you can't see at all except under a microscope. This way all I have to do is look and make sure the # matches so I know I got my diamond back.

Re: Resizing ring
Try going to Tri-County. They fix rings right there. I had to have a stone fixed and it was done in 45 mins. They resized it too by adding those little balls inside, and it was done in no time.

Re: Resizing ring
My ring was half a sz too big and we went back to our jeweler and he did it in about 15 minutes on the spot and I watched. Don't take to to any random place. Take it to where you got it & make sure they do it while you wait!
MY FH is crazy paranoid about this & you should be too.... it wasn't cheap I am sure and you never know what schemers can do out there!

Re: Resizing ring
I would not leave it there. FH got my ring in the diamond district and we went to a jewler in my town to have it sized and they did it right in front of me and it took like 30 min. Any place should be able to do it there and if they cant i would find a place that can. No way was i leaving my ring with them.

I didn't need to leave mine. Only took like 15 minutes. I think a lot of places will do it right there for you while you wait

Re: Resizing ring
Seeing that some people have gotten their rings resized on the spot made me think to mention that the type of metal can affect how long they need to work with it, too. Platinum can take longer to make changes to...something about the heat it needs to be to manipulate and polish, I believe.

Re: Resizing ring
I got those little balls put on and it took 15 minutes and I watched the ring the whole time. I liked the ball option just in case I get fat or my fingers get swollen or something they can take them right off real quick.
I went to tri county....Sam at Diamond Roof deals with my cousin for years so I went to him. I think it cost like $30 or less.
