Re: resume help
From what I remember, you shoud use the cover letter to give specific informtion about your goals, what you are looking for and especially why you are well-suited for the particular job you are applying for. Mention work experience and skills that are relevant, but maybe not obvious from looking at your resume. At the end I would mention something about being excited for the opportunity to meet with them to discuss the position, etc...Hope this helps - I am sure there are websites out there with examples, try monster.com. Good Luck!

Re: resume help
This is the format I use:
Home Address Date (written out)
Company's Address
Dear Human Resource Representative (as appropriate):
Intro paragraph...one or 2 sentences...Maybe where you saw job ad listed, what job it is and that it peaked your interest (ex. Your ad in last Sunday’s New York Times for a position as XXX is of interest to me and I would appreciate your consideration as a candidate.)
Short Paragraph (5 sentences or so) explaining why you are qualified for the job similar to what dkga1026 said. Remember to answer/ acknowledge any questions in the ad.
Closing sentence (ex. I will be glad to make myself available for an interview at your convenience.)
