I'm not going to do a 'review' in our traditional sense because it wouldn't be fair to the Italians. This is not the first Italian wedding we've been to (and all have been in Northern Italy) so I feel qualified to say that there just isn't the same type of reception 'glamour' that you'd find in our NY/NJ area.
So, I'll post pics and talk about the Italian traditions. Maybe some of you will find some cute ideas that would be unique here.
First, pics of the groom and his home. Somoene decorated the whole stairway with ballooons and flowers. Also, you'll see that he has the bride's bouquet. That was the first thing that stuck out at me- HE took pics with the bouquet before the wedding. The tradition is for him to present his bride with her bouquet of flowers when she arrives at the church.
(then there's me at the groom's house pulling the petals off the roses and gathering up the toss petals)
Also, all wedding guests wait outside the church until the bride arrives. Then, the groom helps her out of the car, presents her with her bouquet and they each walk into the church with their parents.
this wedding didn't have a bridal party- I hear that in Italy, it's kind of 50/50 as to whether or not there will be a bridal party.
Also, the bride and groom stay at the end of the ceremony to sign their certificate and take photos. After all of the guests are outside, the bride and groom finish taking pics and then go outside
eta: at this wedding, the bride and groom released 'pigeons'. (I'm pretty sure they were doves, but everyone kept calling them the Italian word for 'pidgeon')
the bride looked gorgeous...and I am very familiar with Italian weddings....in my families home town,,they walk through the town after church....Great pix's...

Re: review of wedding in Italy!
next will be reception details.
Upon their arrival at the reception, the groom saws a log in half. I believe it's supposed to signify his abilty to provide/care for his new wife.
(at our last Italian wedding, the groom couldn't saw it by himself and the bride had to help- the whole crowd broke out in laughter)
at this wedding, DH's cousin did it so fast, we didn't have a chance to take a pic
but, after he saws it, he pops open a champagne bottle, serves his wife a glass (and himself) and they toast
eta: the enterpiece is behind the table sign. CPs are provided by the restaurant.
I didn't like the way she did it though because she kept taking the bouquet back. One of DH's cousin's daughter's caught it TWICE. But, since she's only 7, the bride asked for it back. (actually, I think it hit the ground the 1st time, but NOT the 2nd time. )
So, then 'ceasar' jumped in front and grabbed it the 3rd time. Finally, on the 4th toss, someone 'acceptable' caught it and they moved on to cut the cake
eta: all of those images are too big, but it's just a bouquet toss, so I won't go crazy with those...

Re: review of wedding in Italy!
the cake was cool- all different tiers, spread out. and, it tasted FABULOUS. But, they don't do any other desserts, so that's why the cake MUST be AWESOME. Also, after they cut the cake, the groom pours more champagne for the bride and himself and they toast again
OH, and there are NO bustled gowns in Italy. It's a shame because by the end of the night, the train is destroyed, but it's really cool to see the whole train out all night. wish I did that, but I was afraid of tripping

hmm, no bustle! that's intersting!
I like that idea, and how it looks too. but I would be afraid of others stepping on it all night.

Re: review of wedding in Italy!
last thing (not sure if it's an ITALIAN tradition, or just a tradition that the groom has with his friends) but, his friends took his tie, cut it up, and auctioned off the pieces to all of the people at the tables. They put the money in the empty champagne bottle and gave it to the groom at the end of the night
(the groom told us that he secretly bought a copy of his tie because he knew his friends would do this. sad thing is, he forgot to put on the new tie and did all of the 'guest' photos without a tie)
oh, and I really liked that the bride and groom had their photographer take a pic with them and EVERY group of guests as they left the wedding.
If I understood correctly: the centerpieces are provided by the restaurant. They were tiny little assortments. Each had different flowers, but were in the same type of 'setting'. You can see one on the above pic of the table card 'Tavolo Anturium'. The CP is behind that sing. But, the B&G's parents provide the dais piece, bouquet for the bride, toss bouquet, and church flowers.
oh, and then me and DH. Please note- there is NO AC in Italy, so we were both sweaty and gross
oh, and it seems that at weddings, it's very popular to have guests do karoake. DH always has a blast because they love to play American music, but he's the only one who can pronounce the English words correctly.
I always have fun listening to the Italians sing the English songs...
I seee....treeeess ov greena, ant clawds ov whita.... . But, there isn't really a dance floor, so you just go where you can fit and dance between the tables.
