Reviews or comments on different SUV's?

Original post by NovemberSue

My friend is thinking about buying a truck but doesn't want to spend too much money.Any recommendations for anything or any negative feedback on what to stay away from? They were thinking of things like the Dodge Durango or the Toyota Rav4 or the Hyundai Santa Fe.

I have an Excursion (LOVE it!), which I'm guessing your friends aren't interested in (especially with a cost of almost $70 to fill her up), but we did own a 4-Runner prior to the Excursion. Great truck!!! Never any problems and believe me, we beat the crap out of that truck!!! Lots of off-roading.

I have a 2002 Rav4 and love it. It's not too big and not too small, it's just right!! Great on gas and pretty good in the snow.

we are going to be buying an SUV in the next year or so. I like the Xterra (and other foreign trucks) but FH will only bbuy American. I hate to say it but I haven't heard very good things about the American trucks

Another vote for the Pathfinder. I'm so glad we got it. I've never spent more than $30 to fill it and that's with 93.

In the market for a truck too.....
We are going to look at the Ford Explorers in a few weeks.
My friend told me she heard from a couple of people that have owned all types of SUV's, that the Explorer tends to overcompensate in the snow and can fishtail.

Anyone out there actually use their SUV's for inclement weather? Any comments on this?

We would also consider the Jeep Grand Cherokee, for some reason they seem to have come down a bit in price. Maybe its all the competition.

Another Vote for the Pathfinder!! I love my Pathfinder. It is about $25 to fill er up and i have absolutely no complaints!!
It handles very well in the snow, I just pop it in 4 wheel drive and I'm all set.
My DH has a Yukon, it cost about $40 to fill up, thats a great truck also.

I have a 97 4Runner and LOVE it. I bought it used 3 years ago and have over 100K miles on it now. I have never put any money into it other than preventative maintenance. I drive it on the beach every summer weekend and usually have a 25ft. travel trailer in tow. It handles the towing with no problems. The storage space is very large and the back window goes down so you don't have to drive with the hatch open if you have really long cargo. Not many cars have this feature. My friend has a Jeep Grand Cherokee and has had to borrow my truck to fit things that his can't.

Edited to add: Costs about $23 to fill the tank.
