Reviews or comments on different SUV's?

My friend is thinking about buying a truck but doesn't want to spend too much money.Any recommendations for anything or any negative feedback on what to stay away from? They were thinking of things like the Dodge Durango or the Toyota Rav4 or the Hyundai Santa Fe.

We were looing into th eDurango, it is real nice, and not too pricey, but the gas mileage was awful But I guess any SUV will have bad mileage.
We really lik ethe Tahoe, but it is far out of our budget now.

We bought a Durango brand new in 2001. Although we loved it at the time and it is a strong truck, we have had many problems with it. For example, the automatic locks in the car went bad fast! Our mechanic told us to look out for that and sure enough it happened. It has a third bench which we needed but the space isnt all that much to be honest. Its good cause its small on the outside which you need for the city but more roomon the inside. So i guess my review is mixed.

I've heard mixed reviews on the Durango myself.

Gas isnt too bad comapred to other suv's. To fiil it up super we usually pay ( if the prices r reasonable) like 45.00 which isnt too bad compared to other trucks. Usually we just use regular which saves us money.

We have a Nissan X-terra which we love...I honestly don't know much about cars except that you put gas in them and they go...but plenty of leg room, not too bad w/ gas and its great in the snow!

My hubby is a new and used car and truck dealer in Queens. I would be biased if I gave you an opinion on what I like because it’s what he sells. However, the gas prices for any type of SUV is going to be extraordinary. We went to Boston and back this past weekend in a large type SUV (Yukon as opposed to a RAV4) and we spent $35 to fill up the tank –each way! On the other hand, I’m going to toot my own horn here (no pun intended!) and rave about my car/SUV. It’s a crossover vehicle, not quite a car, and not an SUV. It’s the Pontiac Vibe (Toyota has an identical car in its Matrix) and I love it!! It gets 26-30 mpg highway mileage and about 23 mpg normal driving. It’s small enough for me to like, yet big enough to have the feel of an SUV. My only thought would be that my hubby thinks the Durango is cheaply made – as you can see from the comments above. He calls it the Fisher Price of SUV’s (no offense to anyone who has one). But somehow, no matter the gas prices and cost, SUV’s are what’s in. Be sure to check into it and good luck. FM me if you have any questions and I can ask my hubby for you.

I have a 2002 Rav4 and I LOVE IT!!!! It drives like a car and is great on gas. I hate the large SUV's but i like being high up, so its perfect. Great in snow and bad weather too.

My Fh's dad has a Nissan Pathfinder and he loves it. I love Nissans. Edited to say that my MOH's boyfriend has an Xterra and he loves it also. He's never had any problems with it.

The exterra is pretty big. SO much leg room in the front, and the back is pretty big also, the only thing is that its built for outdoor sports..its not like the pathfinder which is the luxury model, but i still love it..Ive never been in the 4 runner so i cant tell..

I only like Foreign cars/trucks but my FH has a Dodge Ram & it costs $45-50 to fill up!

I have a Pathfinder and I love it. This is my second one and both times I have had great experiences with it. It costs me about $25-27 to fill up with regular right now-but I do have to fill up once a week. The difference between the Pathfinder and other SUV's is they are built on a car base so they ride like cars, not like trucks. This means a much smoother ride. I know someone who has the Santa Fe and she has nothing bad to say about it. It handles well in the snow and I think she gets good gas mileage-plus I think it's very reasonable in price. I would try to stay away from Durango-I've heard some bad things about them.

We have an Explorer and love it. I just wish we didn't have a leather interior BRRRRR! DH usually fills the tank but I think it's about $30 to fill.

edited to add: I think the Subaru Outback's look kind of cool. Have you checked those out?
